Hello, Years ago My Parents Neighbor Who worked at International Harvester during WWII here in Evansville on the M1 Garands and when he saw my father had an INH told us the background of the #S inside the stock, went home and brought back the punches he used to put them in the stocks. They were still in the original wood box that had stamped on it.. DETAIL CRIB NUMBER ONE..We placed the punches in the Stock my dad had and it was the same perfect fit..He claimed the punches came from Republic Industries and he had no idea why they had to add the #s in the Stocks..Before he Passed away he Gave them to my dad and now I have them and wondered if there were more out there or any other information as to why they were only used here in Evansville In. Thanks..I put Some pictures today on my website http://baileyscollections.angelfire.com/home/ Here's 1 of the pictures to give you an idea.

Go here:
http://www.thegca.org/

Write a letter to the editor providing as much history as possible and pictures.

Even if you're not a member, they may be interested enough to print it since those punches are Garand history.
