    Hi all,
Well here's another easy one for you guys. Ok, on July 31, 1944 Ordnance was testing a new M1 Garand given the model number as a M1E8. This rifle had a number of different things on it. Name some if you can but what I am looking for is the adjustable cheekpiece which was flush with the stock. My question is WHY was it flush with the stock??? Also this testing was done at APG ( Aberdeen Proving Ground ). Have fun.

    I'll bite

    Hi all,
Khornet, You are correct Sir. The flush mount cheekpiece was set up so that a shooter could drop down and use the iron sites. I wonder why it was not used.

    Yipeee

    I GOT one!

Spent a pleasant afternoon last week shooting an M1D. Scoped M1s (M1C, M1D, MC-1) are really easier for us lefties, it turns out. And I did just what Eclancy describes: swithced back and forth from glass to iron.

    That is,

I got the answer; I don't got an M1D, just got to shoot one.
