Recently I've been looking at the Bushmaster M4. I really like the M4 set-up EXCEPT the for the collapsible stock. Can I change out the collapsible stock for a regular or entry length stock? Also, are there other types of M4-like collapsible stocks available that would fit the Bushmaster? Finally, any suggestions/recommendations on where to buy aftermarket stocks on the web? I might want to change the furniture to tan or green. Thanks.

You dont want the collapasable stock, yet you want to know if there are more M4 stocks that will fit? I dont get it. But (aside from an hour-long nap yesturday) I havent slept since saturday so If I'm the only guy missing something, it doesnt surprise me.

What is is about the M4 that you like? The barrel cut for the M203? Shorter barrel? flattop? You can have an AR built in just about any configuration you like. What do you have in mind? You can buy RRA green furniture at adcofirearms.com (satisfied customer here). And yes, regular and entry stocks will swap in.

If it helps I've got a RRA six-position on a BM lower, RRA upper too... FWIW I cant really tell a difference between the RRA stock and the BM, other than the RRA had a lower price tag.

Yes. You will need a wrench designed to remove the collapsible stock. Inexpensive ones are available for $5.00 that will do the job. They aren't really durable, but for a couple of uses they should be just fine. A strap wrench may or may not work. It depends on how tight they put it on at the factory. Installing a standard or entry stock is pretty simple, with only a flat tip screwdriver required for tools.

I will caution you to try out an entry stock before purchasing. Most folks who shoot without body armour and use a conventional method of holding the rifle will find the stock way too short. A fix would be to use a 1" stock spacer to get it to a more comfortable length. If you want a shorter stock a better solution would be to find one in the A1 length.

There a many collapsible stocks out there on the market. A search over here or check over at AR15.com will yield a lot of good information. As for M4 type stocks, all of the manufacturers build them to be interchangeable between AR brands. That is part of the beauty of the AR system. Bushmaster and Rock River manufacture them in green or black. If you want Coyote brown you can get one from Cavarms.
Finally, any suggestions/recommendations on where to buy aftermarket stocks on the web?

Check over in the Equipment Exchange area of AR15.com as well as their feedback section from folks dealing with vendors. Most most recent purchase was with Bravo Company USA. I was extremely pleased with their service.

As for colors I believe the Cavarms offers the most out there. Rock River usually has green and black.

Thanks for your replies/info.

Zach S, the reason I asked if there were other types of M4-like collapsible stocks is I've seen pictures of some collapsible M4 stocks that seemed to have a pad on the butt. Yesterday, after some more searching I found that there are after-market slip on pads that fit the M4 stock. I think that is what I had seen before. As for the reason I'm interested in a M4 rather than say a AR carbine, it's really just a matter of cosmetics, I like the M4 barrel profile.

Redlg155, Thanks for the info. The A1 stock sounds like exactly what I want in a fixed stock for the Bushmaster M4. Here is a link to the closest picture of what I'm looking for. It's a airsoft replica, but it is what I'm looking for in a real (semi-auto version) M4. (Click on the thumbnail pic)

Harry Tuttle, thanks for the great links.
