A while back Winchester made a model 70 CRF rifle called a super shadow with a black synthetic stock. If a person wanted to ditch the black synthetic for an American walnut stock where would you look?

Back in the 1990’s this was a Model 70 CRF super shadow, DBM in 7mm Rem Mag. Since then it got a Krieger 27 inch magnum contour SS barrel and a Hogue rubber over molded aluminum pillar bed stock. Hogue didn’t make one for DBM, so I used a vertical mill and made one.

Dang is it a good shooter, too. I cannot say enough good about the Hogue stock. But I like nice wood, too.

Ebay if you want factory (tho there are some direct sources, cant remember who tho), Boyds if you want after market and very close to drop in, Richard Microfit if you want slightly prettier and are willing to do the work.

They made at least 2-3 different versions of the "Shadow" series of rifles over the years. Some had floor plates, some had blind magazines. Then you have to consider that some Winchesters have 2 piece bottom metal, others have 1 piece bottom metal. You have to choose a stock designed to work with the type of bottom metal your rifle has. Finding a wood stock designed for a blind magazine is next to impossible.

Most older versions ( prior to about 2008) used 2 piece bottom metal. Newer guns have one piece bottom metal. There is some overlap where both versions were used. This makes it a little more difficult to find the right stock. It is possible to modify either stock to work with the wrong bottom metal but it is less than ideal.

There are a few at good prices here if they have what you need. You don't say what cartridge

It is also possible to buy new bottom metal to match whatever stock you choose, but it can get expensive.
