Alright so i have a old beat up m93 action laying in my box of junk and a thought came to me for a nice 7.62x39 coyote rifle.... problem is i cant find any barrels being numrich is out, so what are my options other than er shaw?

I tried a 7.62x39chamber insert in a 1916 Mauser about 20 years ago. After a lot of tinkering with the magazine, I got it to feed with 2 rounds in the mag. Then there was the problem of the 7.62x39 rim being smaller than the .473" of the bolt face. About 1/2 the fired cases slipped out of the extractor and were left lying on top of the magazine. I gave up and pulled the barrel and had a local guy recut a Remington .243 barrel to fit and now shoot it with starting loads so I don't "eat the bolt".

Lothar Walther

Lothar Walther has new barrels but they are expensive. A model 93 is a small ring Mauser? I have searched and come to the conclusion I would be better off to find a large ring Mauser action for my first rebarrel project as there seems to be a lot of barrels available for the large ring action. I'm thinking a Turkish Mauser might be the wise choice.

Midway has their Green Mountain barrels threaded for Mauser in a series 2 for small ring like the M93 that you mentioned, in calibers made for small ring actions, or the Series 3 for the large ring actions in modern calibers made for M98 style.

They only list one barrel in series 2 small ring in stock, and that is the 6.5x55 Swede. That's really not a bad thing.

I don't know if you want to put that much into a conversion, but it would be superior to any 7.62x39 with it's noted short comings. Food for thought.

Bob Bonillas, most Turk Mausers are large ring with small ring barrel threads. Midway has barrel blanks that you can convert to fit the Turks in modern calibers.

Which would also include converting a 93 Mauser bolt face, extractor, reciever rails, and magazine to Feed, Fire and Function Freely with the smaller case head and shorter cartridge length of the 7.62x39 round.

Converting a M93 Mauser to the 7.62x39 round is much more to deal with then a simple barrel swap to one with the right chamber in it!

Thanks for the info on the Turkish Mauser. I read the Yugo Mauser is a large ring? I have 2 small ring Mausers. After looking for a small ring barrel, I think it would be easier to find a large ring barrel. As a project, I want to do one barrel swap. I'm thinking 220 Swift on a Yugo Mauser action.

I have done 2 small ring Mausers with 7.62x39 Numrich barrels. Mag box needs to be spaced and extractor needs an extended one made from a blank. After some tuning, feed OK and shoot great! Have 2 more to build! By the way, Numerich always restock their 7.62x39 barrels, check often.

The issue is the bolt face, I think one of mini mauser bolts can be used with some 'effort'
or you end up shimming the face and using a NEW longer extractor to hold the round on

then you need a block of AL or plastic to block the magwell, and a new spring
I have one, nice rifle, not the most accurate (express sights and I have no clue how to use them) but I need to do more work before I can cycle it without expecting it to misfeed.

After blocking the mag well. One of my mauser uses AR15 follower and spring. Works fine.

I have seen Randy Kechum weld together an AK magazine and a Turkish Mauser, and put on one of those small ring barrels that were around 10 yeas ago.

He has cancer now. He was my go to guy for TIG welding.

If I put an AK case in a 92 Mauser or 98 Mauser bolt face, they LOOK like they will extract.

But when I screw on of the small ring 7.62x39mm small ring barrels into a Turkish Mauser action, it does not extract:(

So one could feed it single shot, and to get extraction, one is going to have to modify the extractor. Either weld on some more hook, and grind off some more of where it rests.

You're jumping from one problem child to another by suggesting the 220 Swift. It's a semirimmed tapered case that is problematic to achieve proper feeding from a standard Mauser action. I have one of these and it's given me fits since I first screwed the barrel on.

220 barrel

Thanks for the heads up. I had a Ruger in 220 Swift and friends said "you're going to burn up your barrel loading for max velocity". They were right.

The problem with the x39 is that you don't have it CENTERED on the bolt face, rather you have it at the top, when you have it centered, there is barely any grab by a standard 7mm extractor, if you buy a blank long extractor, and fit it for X39 you can solve your extraction problem.

A Mini Mauser is a completely different and much smaller rifle than a 93 Mauser. Making the bolt from one work in the other would be quite an 'effort'.
