MA Attorney General Approved Firearms Roster??

I am trying to locate a current Massachusetts Attorney General Approved Firearms Roster. I have already located an Approved Firearms Roster but it states the following:

“Firearms
on this Approved Firearms Roster do not necessarily comply with the requirements of the
Attorney General’s Handgun Sales Regulations.
“


It's hard to compare firearms you may want to purchase if you don't know what ones you are "MA/Attorney General compliant".

This is very frustrating.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think that's the one you already have. These are essentially guns that, if manufactured prior to Sep '98, can be brought into the state (via an FFL) and sold in MA.

I'm not sure there is a formal list of the MA AG-compliant guns--meaning handguns that can be sold new in MA (manufacuring date after Sep '98). All compliant guns are on the list, but not all listed guns are compliant (Glocks are famous around here for being on the list, then--briefly--being compliant, and then being out of compliance again a couple of weeks later. )

But if you ask an FFL here which guns are approved for new sale here, they can tell you. The manufacturer has to obtain a letter from the AG, and that letter has to be presented to the wholesaler/distributer before the manufacturer can ship new handguns into the state. The FFLs essentially use the distributers to let them know which handguns they can get, and which they can't.

Let me know if you have other questions--IANAL, but I deal with this as often as I can (for my own purchases).

Yes, this is the list I have but that better explains how it works.

With all these restrictions I am really confused how I'm going to find a gun to fit all my aesthetic and ergonomic needs. :banghead:

If any FFL would like to help me out a little more with this it will be GREATLY appreciated.

There is no such one pistol--which is why it is SO IMPORTANT to buy a WHOLE LOT!

There are a lot of knowledgeable shooters and dealers here, and just about all are more than willing to help.

Let us know how it goes. Visiting a good dealer (who will have good used guns as well as the new, compliant ones for sale) is an obvious (and fun) place to start.

Haha, yah I'm realizing that but it's not in my budget as of yet.

I guess I shouldn't say "all my aesthetic and ergonomic needs" just most of them.

I know I want a chrome-nickle-stainless (something pretty and shiny) baby eagle style CC / larger caliber -40?/ with a 22 caliber adapter. Not sure if that's asking too much. If anyone has any suggestions I am all ears ..er eyes.

Sig P229. Best .40 on the market.

Baby Eagle is a CZ 75 variant (as are the AR 24, EAA Witness, etc.) None are compliant, and finding old ones is hard.

SIGs--even stainless SIGs--are relatively easy to come by. They're DA, and there are .22 conversion kits. Kudos, RobNDenver. But unlike the BE, they don't have an external safety, if that matters to you.

Other manufacturers selling new steel .40-and-up semi-autos here are Smith and Ruger, only (I think--maybe Berettas, too, but the new ones seem rarer than the used ones). Para-Ordnance pistols here, too, if the LDA trigger is acceptable--unlike the Smith and Ruger, .22 kits for these 1911-style guns are also plentiful. All will have external lever safeties.

Glocks are not compliant--but used pre-Sep '98 ones are VERY easy to come by.

And you never know when a used pre-Sep '98 beauty from another manufacturer will show up in someone's display case!

Thanks RobNDenver.. The P229 looks like a great contender but the Sig website says the P229 Elite Stainless & P229 Platinum Elite are not MA compliant. Only the standard P229 ..

Though I love the idea of a safety I am on the fence of weather it would be an actual deal breaker.

Wow this is going to get aggravating really fast.

Well, does the 1911 on my belt answer your question?

You may want to ask THAT question by starting a different thread--at the end of this one on Mass laws, very few people will find it.

Or, before you start the thread, search old threads here for the topic--I'm sure it's been discussed a lot.

But frankly, it doesn't matter what we think of DA or DAO--YOUR answer will be the correct one for you, so at some point you're going to have to try one, stick with it if you like it, and try something else if you don't.

(Unless you go 1911--then your search is over! )

I'm leaning toward the double action myself.

I'm sure if I learn to always handle the gun like the first shot has already been taking then I will be less likely to forget about the half pull.

Anyway, Is there a new MA compliant stainless chrome etc Sig P229 available?

and do all the Sigs come without a safety ?

I'm confused, I went to the "Approved Weapons Roster" and there is also another list the "Large Capacity Weapons Roster" as well that includes CZ's and EAA's.

Are they purchasable?

Yup--not new ones, but purchasable second-hand if owned in-state before Sep '98. But only on a class A license (covers CCW and "Large capacity"). B covers handgun ownership (not CCW) and long guns, no high-cap for either. C is non-Large capacity long guns. D is pepper-spray only.

Can't get post-'94 high cap mags, though.

"Confused?" Yep--I think that's the point of the laws: the more confusing the laws, the more likely you'll catch someone innocent committing a violation unintentionally.

And the more potential gun-owners you can discourage.

look in the glass cases and ask questions of the educated staff.

Not trying to be a wiseguy, buy I used to live in MA, It Ws a terrible place to live. If You can - MOVE- VA
is gun friendly and the weather is better. Sothern Va is better than No. VA.

Alexfubar, I have been looking through Four Seasons website the last couple weeks. I think I may drag my Girl friend down there this weekend.

bikerdoc..lol... I'd love to move out of Ma and for the most part I can't stand the state.. But I would def miss Boston.
