Magazine Issue with Ruger Mark II Government Target

I bought a used Mark II government target at my local shop last week. When I handled it in the shop it seemed great, in amazing condition and good to go. However yesterday I cleaned it and after I was done filled up the mag and tried to cycle some live ammo.

But here is the issue I am finding, the magazine feed lips dont hold the front of the round properly, at least 50% of the time as soon as the follower pushes up it flips the round verticle so its just holding onto the mag by the rim. When I was able to put it in the gun it seemed to not properly eject because the next round was getting in the way.

I hope this is all a magazine issue, I already ordered a mag from Midway anyway but likely wont have it before I go shooting this Sunday. I posted some pictures below, can anybody tell any obvious issues with the mag? Are they fixable?

Throw that mag away.

Someone's dicked it all up, looks like. Hope it wasn't the same person smithing the pistol.

+1 on toss it.

But the two spring fingers at the front of the mag are supposed to be close enough together to hold the rounds down until the case rim slides up over them and flex them apart rnough to release the round.

By the time that happens the bullet nose is either in, or very close to being started in the chamber.

You can try carefully bending them back together until they are in a position to control the feed.

It can't hurt to try to fix it. Even if it breaks, you haven't lost anything.

Is that an aftermarket magazine or a MKI magazine? IMO it doesn't look like a Ruger MKII magazine; here's one from my MKII Government:

well I am going to toy with it a little today when I get home. I really wish I could find one locally but I am afraid I am going to have to wait until my midway order come in.

Mark II mags shouldn't be that hard to come by in an area as big as Portland.

curl the fronts of the mag lips a taste such that they just keep a bullet from nosing up--will be ok

called a few shops and found a NIB mag for a good price so I bought one even though I have one on the way. I most likely will eventually mess with the original mag but its been put on secondary status for now. And of course I will keep the mag coming from midway too so I will 2 new mags and one "maybe" mag.

yeah, get you some new mags and play with that one at your leisure. Unusual for a Ruger mag. to have problems, but hi-standard's are notorious for it, especially the crap put out by texas based hi-standard. type Jaybar into your browser, this is THE guy for adjusting Hi_standard mags. Although the measurements will be different his site will show you how to do mag adjustments which will work on any .22 mag. If you still can't get it to work, tie a tag to it saying "bad mag, parts only." You may want the spring,follower, or base in the future.

compare your new mag against the old and see if the lips are bend different or worn

Ruger sells the parts of the mags so you might call them and order the mag body if all the other parts are ok.
