...at making the Walther P99 look cheap and ugly.

Wait, huh? Does not compute.

So now they have the IMI Baby Eagle and now some Walther/S&W99 clone that they are also calling the Baby Eagle?

Why on earth would the company make/import two totally different pistols with such similar names?

What's next, a rifle named the BFR (Biggest Finest Rife)?

IIRC IMI never actually called their pistol the "Baby Eagle", its always been the "Jericho".

Baby Eagle is the name Magnum Research slapped on it when they imported it, so either IWI has changed the design of the Jericho from a CZ75 clone to a Walther P99 clone. That or Magnum Research is making Walther P99 clones now instead of importing Jerichos (it looks like it says "Made in America" on the frame). I suspect the latter.

EDIT
Actually after digging around their site it looks like this new pistol is the "Baby Desert Eagle Fast Action" so its a new line of pistols with the Baby Eagle name.

SECOND EDIT
Could be worse, they could be importing IWI's "Barak" pistol ... which is about the ugliest pistol ever.

Gross. (feel shiver run down spine)

Isn't there a chance that Walther will sue Magnum Research like how Glock sued Smith & Wesson?

No because I suspect that Walther is getting royalty checks from Magnum Research. If MR completely copied the P99 without permission than they're really big idiots (they make some cheesy guns, but I don't think they're stupid).

I really don't see the problem with it.

While it's not as attractive as the P99 I don't think this thing looks cheap or ugly. Now the Barak, that's hideous.

First, I agree that it's super ugly. Second, I think the price will play a part in whether or not this will be a worthy clone. The aesthetics alone say, "I was cheaper to produce than a P99." I'd like to see the price before I say any more.

My Walther P99 .40 A/S was a very reliable and accurate gun. Only I made the mistake of buying it in .40s&w rather than 9mm. I like the .40s&w, especially with my USPc, but the P99 and .40 do not mix. Had it been a 9mm, I might still have it.

Also, the Jericho was already a knock-off design and the DE is more of a novelty gun anyway, so what does this addition to the MR family really hurt? It only expands their product line and gives them more of a chance to make money, so it was a smart move on their part IMO. I think I'd be more offended if I was a Walther P99 owner, as that would make TWO rip-offs of pretty decent and original handgun design.

*edit* Forgot to mention that I'm curious if this will eventually be offered with the Anti-Stress (AS) trigger configuration. One thing that was great about my P99 was the AS trigger. VERY nice trigger pull. The actual shape of the trigger along with the .40 recoil didn't exactly make for comfortable shooting, but the trigger pull characteristics (i.e., super nice and crisp SA trigger and a tolerable DA trigger pull) were definitely appreciated.

I'm curious what makes people think that this gun is "cheap", according the Magnum Research website the MSRP is $699 which is in the same neighborhood as the Walther P99 and more expensive than the SW99. If people are referring to it as cheap in terms of quality then I would like to see some evidence to back up that statement.

As a proud Walther P99 owner I can tell you that I'm not offended that MR is using the P99 design. I love the CZ-75 but I'm not offended that MR copied that design for the Jericho. If the design works and people like it then I see no problem with multiple companies sharing it. If Walther doesn't mind that MR is using this design then why should I?

I think people are jumping to conclusions about this gun prematurely. It hasn't even been released yet and people are already bashing it based on appearance alone. Personally I think it's more attractive than a Glock but that doesn't mean that I think the Glock is cheap or poorly made.

Nice to see a manufacturer adding to its product line.

I'm sure I'll never buy one, as I already have a Walther, and its the same gun with a differently milled slide.

I suspect Magnum Research is selling this Walther clone because they lost the rights to import the Jericho. KBI took over importation of the Jericho, but they just went out of business.

Regarding the Jericho. It is a knockoff of a CZ, but not a knockoff of a Tanfoglio. It is a Tanfoglio!

Huh?
To the best of my knowledge, Tanfoglio is a knockoff of a CZ made it Italy.
The Jericho is a knockoff of a CZ produced by IMI and made in Israel.

Am I incorrect?

Jericho 941 uses slide and frame made by Tanfgolio of Italy, then assembled in Israel.
My wife actually likes the looks of the Barak, but can't stand the name.
