Please give me the skinny on this rifle with comparisons to a stock ruger 10/22.

Is it worth 3x the money of the stock ruger? And why, or why not?

I'd rather buy one that's great as opposed to making a Ruger 10/22 shoot tacks like I want for more than this Magnum lite.

ciao,

I have one of the their old Acculite barrels on an old 10/22 and it and the trigger job I had done made the gun crazy accurate. I can shoot five shots through the same hole at 50 yards easily on a rest. The barrel doesn't get hot.

I wanted a rifle in .22 Mag and looked everywhere for the "best" one I could find. I ended up buying the Magnum Research MagnumLite MLR-1722M and my dad got me the Volquartsen Superlite 22 WMR on the same day so I have both! The Magnum Research is IMO the better of the two. The Magnum Research rifle is very light and very accurate. I originally thought it was built on a regular 10/22 action, but it's a little bit different, but takes the same .22 Mag magazines. I have not had one feed or eject problem so far with the gun. I love it.

What exactly do you want to know about the gun and I will try to tell you.

When the Kel-Tec PMR-30 comes out I will have a complete .22 Mag setup.

The Mag Lite is already loaded with all the stuff you'll replace in a bone stock 10/22.

trigger group, bolt, recoil rod, spring set, all internals, firing pin, extractor, ejector...you get the point.
All the junk in the Mag Lite is fineer quality than the parts in the OEM 10/22, especially the new 10/22 POS.

Note also that the Magnum Lite has a scope mount machined as part of the receiver, not the screwed-on plate on a 10/22. Yes, with enough Loc-Tite (which Ruger specifically says NOT to use) it will probably stay on. Otherwise, it will shoot loose in 100 rounds or so -- and have fun if you over-torque the tiny, short screws in that aluminum Ruger receiver.

The Magnum Lite also comes with a high-end trigger group and housing -- about $225 by itself.

A little off topic, but what does this mean? It's on the Magnum Research site:

Our MagnumLite .22WMR rifle has an entirely new and unique operating system. It is called a "gas assisted blowback".

When I take mine apart some of the larger parts have holes and slots in them where my 10/22 does not.

The receivers look tough, and the fit and finish is excellent on my nephews. Didn't realize the operating system was any different. It cycles those 22 mags very reliably though. I'm going to have one when my credit card cools down.
