I was not sure, and I had a hard time getting a straight answer from the post office.

You mean they do not know their own regulations?

Shocking. Just shocking!:neener:

Hey brickeyee
I guess some people are scared to give a straight answer.Maybe because she did not know excatly what I was talking about.
But it's good to go now.
Thank you,
Henry

The typical bureaucrats answer.

"If i do not allow anything to occur no one can accuse me of making the wrong decision."

If you are mailing a large quanity of slugs (lead), the USPS Priority Mail flat rate boxes are for you.

The rate is such that anything 3lbs or over, from coast to coast, it is cheaper to flat rate it. If it is less than 3lbs, regular rates are better. There is also a "regional" flat rate box if you are shipping within a postal region.

Same price up to 70 lbs. best rates at www.usps.com using their Click-n-Ship program. Tracking is free if you use click-n-ship

I know we hate the Post Office...

Don't blame the Post Office, it's a vocabulary problem.

When you call them 'slugs' you won't get a clear answer from the Post Office.
Don't blame them for that. A slug is similar to a snail without a shell.
You call them 'slugs' and tell the PO that it isn't loaded ammo, they will be confused.

Make it clear that they are just components, not loaded ammo.
Then you are likely to get a clear answer.

Hey ants
I did change it to that, and still was not at ease with her answer, thats why I posted on here. Now that I know,I feel good.
Thank you,
Henry
ps,,,glad I did not ask about snails etc, lol.

you don't even have to tell them what you are shipping. You only agree it is not on the prohibited list (cigaretts, tobaccco, liquids, explosive, guns, that kind of stuff)

Hey hermannr
Good to know info, but I just wanted to be sure I did not break any laws.
There fact that I even ask, makes me think we are on the wrong track.
Thank you,
Henry

I agree with LeathermanCowboy. Better to ask in advance.
Too bad we have to do that, but better to be informed.

You did well, Leatherman.

What bullets are you going to send? Special ones?

Actually I believe that you can mail invertebrates, but that there are limits (you can mail day old foul, and some other weird stuff)

As for lead
it's lead, and only lead, until you add the boom stuff
hell you can mail primed brass, but not primers, and not loaded cartridges.
When in doubt, make them whip out the mail manual.

It's only 100 slugs,so I will let the post give me the best way.
Assuming these are 1oz. slugs... that's just over 6 lbs. Flat rate will be cheapest. Don't trust the person behind the counter to automatically give you the best shipping option.... after all, they didn't even know if it was "legal" for you to mail a bunch of lead.

Fowl is spelled like this. It means poultry, specificaly just hatched chicks or geese, there is a special rate for it and has been in effect for over 150 years to enable farmers and breeders to get new stock.

Some chicks are fowl.
Some chicks are foul.

Better know the difference.
