The Bangor Daily News (yet another liberal rag that endorsed Obummer) is going after CCW holders....

Welcome to the new Apartheid!

Here's the republican govnenor's response....Make sure you support those who support your rights....

Paul LePage, Maine's Governor

STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR LEPAGE TODAY: Governor LePage on news that the Bangor Daily News is requesting the names and addresses of concealed weapons permit holders from law enforcement agencies across the state: “If newspapers would like to know who has concealed weapons permits, then they should know the Governor has his. I have serious concerns that BDN’s request will incite fear among gun owners and non-gun owners alike regarding their safety. There is no reason why these records should be public and I encourage the Legislature to act quickly to make this personal information confidential. As I have said, the rights of law-abiding citizens to own firearms will not be questioned while I am Governor. That is especially true for those who respect the law enough to go through the process of obtaining a permit to carry concealed.”

Please note that the libs in Maine were all in an uproar two years ago when a guy from up north went on a killing spree, targeting men on the sex offender registry....

SO THESE SAME MORONS ARE FIGHTING TO KEEP SEX OFFENDER DATA PRIVATE !!!

This papers arrogant and condescending apology is typical media. Their we are perfect and you have to believe us is the height of hypocrisy. What they need to do is post the names, hime addresses and telephone number of all their employees and then perhaps we would consider saying OK.

I'd love for just one of the people who have this obvious hypocrisy explain how their convoluted thinking makes any logical sense.

in cast you didn't know.... LePage is a "real" human being...

He ran away from home when he was 14 because his father beat him....

Made his way in business to lead a large discount store chain in the state, and Mayor of a medium sized city.

And has literally told the Portland libs to "kiss my butt" when after declining their invite to their MLK event, they accused him of being racist.

Little did they know that he always attends the MLK day event in Waterville, where he used to be Mayor.

Neither did they apparently know that he has an adopted son, who happens to be black.

Read the comments on the linked story
WOW
the number of apologists and

"they just wanted it for research"
What like XXXXX has the same name as a convicted felon and lives in the same town...

and how small will they print the retraction?

Yeah, this was terrible. Why should I have my name publicized so my coworkers, kids friends parents and others who have no business what I carry or do not carry on me can pass judgment, treat me or my family different or God forbid make me lose my job. I almost wish it would happen so I could get a good lawyer and really up my donations to the NRA from a lawsuit.

Sickens me.

Im happy LePage stood up for us. I didnt get politically active untill recently. Im finding that I like my Governor more and more.

I got a call this morning from John Kinney about LD345. He knew I was going to be speaking with Senator Collins and the Sportsman Alliance of Maine this week and wants to make sure I knew about it and to write the Democrat from our district. I decided to call him first. He plans to support the bill. Even though he does not hold a CCW permit he does hold an "A" rating and wants to keep it.

Guys we have to pile on Angus and let him know in absolute terms that WE put him there and WE can change that next time if he acts stupid. I believe he is a reasonable man and will see it as it should be.:scrutiny:
Those in Maine that are not a member of SAM should be. They are working for you 24/7. :)

I stated this in the other threads on this topic, but an acquaintance who is a Rep asked me to contact my local legislators (specifically Tuttle) to ask them to support / vote for LD345. I suggest you all contact your local legislators with the same request.

Can someone shed some light on King's position on the proposed legislation? Before the election (and the subsequent events), I called his office to find out his position and was told that he would not support an AWB as it did nothing to stem violence the last time it was enacted. Did he change his stance since then?

He needs to be reminded often by MANY that we ALL will pay close attention to his votes. Sometimes what he says and what he ends up doing may be altogether different. Remembering past practices when he was GOV. This is more about UBC's than anything else IMHO. He has stated when elected that he wants to be the person to get both parties to compromise and move ahead on ALL issues.

Angus Rex is a Progressive wearing the Independent label. If the AWB bill has the votes to pass, he vote in favor. If the votes are not there, he will vote against and jump on the soap-box waving the Bill of Rights. Don't be fooled by this guy.

In New York, those newspaper lists of pistol permit holders were used by jail inmates to get the home addresses of guards who had permits for personal weapons. The guard's families then began receiving harrassing calls from inmates.

New York and elsewhere, permit lists either for possession or carry of personal arms have been used to track down spouses of abusers or witnesses to crimes, who had relocated and gotten guns for protection against retaliation.

However to gun control advocates, "gun nuts" are Untermensh deserving of close scrutiny by the public.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal got all the people listed in the Tennessee Handgun Carry Permite rolls and has it on-line. Anti-gun nuts support the idea:
There's a public interest involved

I strongly support your decision to publish an online searchable database of citizens who are permitted to carry concealed handguns.

Any private citizen who carries a loaded, concealed handgun in and among the public constitutes a potential threat to public safety. Those individuals are not law enforcement officials and have no official authorization guiding their individual decisions to draw and fire their weapons in public.

Hence, the public's only recourse is information: If we know who these people are who carry concealed weapons, we can give them wide berth and/or keep their actions under close scrutiny.

In contrast, gun owners who keep their weapons at home, at the firing range or on the hunting field do not, per se, constitute a potential threat to public safety. Privacy can be maintained because the ownership and use of their weapons is private.

State Sen. Mark Norris, R-Collierville, has introduced a bill in the General Assembly that would make it a crime to disclose the names of those who are permitted to carry concealed handguns (SB 1126). I urge the public to oppose this apparent self-serving initiative. The public interest and safety are clearly served by existing freedom of information statutes.

It was revealing to see how just many members of the General Assembly have carry permits. I urge readers to use the database and see for themselves which public officials (local, state and federal) are carrying lethal weapons in and among the public they purport to serve.

Gregory W. Boller
Collierville

I got news for Greg: I have used that database myself: when the newspaper reports a crime or reckless incident with a gun, I run the accused's name and check age reported in newspaper against DOB in the list: no hits on bad or dangerous guys so far. Wow, who wudda thunk that, that bad guys with guns don't need no stinkin' permits. But anti-gun nuts like Greg want to know who to give a wide berth to and who to keep under close scrutiny; he would not be able to give a wide birth to triple murderer Michael Fields or keep him under scrutiny: Fields used knife and baseball bat and did not need a carry permit for those weapons and would not show up on the Commercial Appeal THCP database.

Of course, Carl Brown does show up:

The MemCommAppe used to return street address.

I feel bad for the conceal carry guys working that the newspaper. If you read their response to the denial, it said "The BDN regrets that its request for information may have been taken as a personal attack on concealed carry permit holders, some of whom work at the BDN." Well, now they are outed and no doubt will be more scrutinized. "Is he carrying today?" "Where is your pistol?"

There is a TV station that publishes the names and partial addresses of concealed permit holders in Wake county, NC. At first there was a big stink about the list. Several advertisers quit doing business with WRAL. Then the talk died down and the list does remain. But how many people are web savvy enough to even find the list at this point? It appears that if gun owners don't respond to stupid it just goes away.

I wrote to my local state reps and state sentator.... all three dems.

Only one replied and she said she was voting for the emergency bill.

Yeah, when I spoke with Tuttle and he indicated HE would vote for this I knew it would pass as he is as liberal as they come!

It appears that if gun owners don't respond to stupid it just goes away.

Well the NY paper that published the list in their county resulted in Prison Guards getting threatening calls made to their families at their private residences.

Interesting to think that a prison guard might actually think he could benefit from a CCW permit. Maybe a little too much exposure to the "real world" ;)

Just had David Trahan from the sportsman alliance of Maine at our club meeting and pretty much every one of the 50+ members in attendance joined SAM to help with the fight.

David said it best... "In politics when you get a victory, you do not sit back and enjoy it you turn up the heat and go for more!!" And that is precisely what our opposition does. We need to fight, fight, fight!

Politics is about one thing... Numbers... If we have more numbers on our side then we will win.
