I'm getting a SIG 228 soon and I have to get rid of either my SIG 226 9mm or my Beretta PX4 9mm. These two are both fantastic shooters and I'm torn with my decision. I shoot both equally well (usually, but the PX4 has been better the last week:eek: ) I'm fairly new at shooting (4 months) and this is quite the addictive hobby, eh? I really can't justify having three 9mm semi-autos. All input is appreciated!!

Variety is the spice of life

The P226 is a great gun but that is the one I would sell. That way you'll have 2 great pistols from two different manufactures.

Can't argue too much with TexGunners argument, but I am partial to Sigs and I would keep the P226 because you may use the P226 mags in the P228, but not vice versa.

Just a thought. I regret selling my P226.

I would mail them both to me! It's the only way to be sure... ;)

Seriously, though. I would ditch the Beretta as well. The cross-magazine compatability is a real boon at the range and for SD applications in a pinch.

Mark(psycho)Phipps( HAHAHA! )

I suggest you learn to adjust to 3 (or more) 9s. If you like a gun you'll regret getting rid of it. I currently own 9 handguns with more in the future. The more the merrier and the ammo isn't that expensive.:) Just my 2 cents.

My steadfast rule is that unless I'm desperate for money, I NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER sell a gun. I guess it's a thing with me. I figure you already paid for the 228. No need to sell any of them.

Oh did I mention never!

FWIW, if you need to in the future..........Sig's are easy to sell and hold their value. The Beretta is going to be harder to sell and not hold it's value like the Sig will. I'd sell the Beretta in a heartbeat.

Personally I'd just not pick up the P228 and keep the P226 and PX4.

Though I'm not a fan of the PX4, variety is the spice of life and I don't see having only two guns, which are VERY similar.

$ .02

Unless you will use the Sig 228 for CCW...keep the 2 you got...the 226 is just a wee bit larger than the 228. The other option...if you can't make up your mind, put the 228 on layaway, keep the 226 and PX4 and payoff the 228 slow and steady!

As you can see opinions do vary.

Unless, deperately in need of federal reserve notes I'd be reluctant to sell a gun I liked. If I was planning to use these guns for CC and/or HD, I'd keep the Sigs. For serious guns I'd prefer one manual of arms over "variety is the spice of life".

Sell the 'other'...

as in the Beretta. The P226 is tried and true. Also, the P228 offers the same manual of arms as the P226. While you are at you might consider picking up a copy of the SIG Armorer's DVD that Top Gun Supply offers. Having guns with the same manual of arms allows for exponential benefits from your practice sessions.

FWIW and respectfully submitted.

Why sell either if both work for you? :scrutiny: If you shoot both well, keep them & get the new gun later...if you have to get that new pistol now, I'd sell the one you can get the most for now to put towards the new purchase. Good luck w/ your decision

Your inability to justify owning 3 9mm pistols will die shortly after you acquire a second caliber. Put the 226 back in its box and bury it in your closet. Forget completely about it.

While you are at it, why not buy a Beretta CX4. A nice 9mm carbine would work nicely for your growing collection.

My first suggestion would be to keep all 3.

If you must sell either the Sig or Baretta that you already have, then I would sell the Baretta and keep the Sig 226. This would leave you with 2 handguns that have like controls and would make switching between weapons extremely easy - no chance of mistakes due to using unlike weapons.

I could offer to buy the Sig 226 from you - but would need payment terms of $1 per month (paid annually) until I paid you off. My budget is tight right now. ;)

I wonder how many of the recommendations to sell the PX 4 came from people who have owned one...

As you can see from my signature line, one of the things I enjoy about shooting is the variety of different platforms. I have a P228 and a PX 4. Given the choice (which I don't plan on making!) the Sig would go. For me, it's a question of ergonomics. I like my P228, but the slide release lever is in a bad location and I tend to ride it with my thumb. The Sig is a nice platform, but I don't find it any better than my Berettas.

My buddy has a P226 and I've shot that as well. Again, a nice platform but I wouldn't sell the farm to buy one. So if I had a choice, I'd go with one Sig and one Beretta.

As far as magazine compatability....it works for the range but it wouldn't do you much good for concealed carry. The P226 15-rd mags stick out too far to be convenient. So you'd be able to keep your Sig mags to use in your P228, but if you want to carry you're going to end up buying P228 mags anyway.

Just my $0.02...YMMV.

my other $ .02

I am going to go against the flow on this one. I highly prefer Berettas over Sigs...I have my reasons.

1) I have owned 2 Sig P220's in the past one was an earlier West Germany DAO and a Sig P239 in 9mm...I can't seem to shoot them worth a hoot. I couldn't tighten the groups below 3" at 7 yards with the P220's and the slide stop on the P239 would not engage on all 4 factory mags that I've owned.

2) I have owned several Beretta 92's and had to liquidate them due to a totalled car and a job loss. I am able to manipulate the controls on the Beretta much easier than the Sigs, especially with weak hand training drills.

Summary: Everyone will give you a different opinion on what to do...settle down for a week and think over your decision. In the past I have jumped fast and hard when I thought I was making the right decision and would regret it within 2 weeks.

Real life: I have hit rock bottom myself...I am down to 1 gun due to selling off the collection to augment the unemployment payments that I am getting. I am learning the lesson of making due with what I have and making the most of what I have. The gun is a S&W 642 internal hammer J-frame .38 snub. It does my CCW, HD, and vehicle.

I have had to backtrack and learn to layer my HD with a can of Sabre pepper/cs spray, an aluminum t-ball bat, and the snubby. It used to be layered with a full size revolver, a full size hi cap semiauto and a shotgun. If I didn't keep buying, selling, and trading off the weapons on a whim, the credit card debt wouldn't have buried me and I would still own a decent collection. This life lesson was learned hard!

Conclusion: Don't jump immediately and consider your options. Think through your decision and make sure you won't regret it. Let your brain make your decision, not the elation you get from a new gun purchase.

Keep them all. The only reason you need to justify having 3 pistols is because you can.
