Makarov firing pin.

When I break down my Mak I lightly brush the firing pin and channel with oil and then wipe it off - for the sake of rust prevention.

Am I doing the right thing, or should I leave them both bone dry?

That's what I do. Use a light oil like RemOil and make sure you get all the parts wet with it (rather, damp - not really wet), and wipe lightly. You'll get the rust protection without the gunk build-up. The End.

As long as the channels are clear of crud you should be good.
