Hello All,

Im new to THR, but a proud member.
Im in need of some help. My dads got a Makarov with the double stack 12 round magazine and the part in the magazine that sits on top of the spring broke. My question is does any one know of any place on the web or the state of Washington to get replacment parts. I've search what I could think of on Google and checked the online stores that I know of, but Im new to guns as well so Im not sure where to look. I found some magazine on midwayusa.com, but they are all back ordered with not estimated time of restock. Thanks.

I don't think those are what he needs if he has an actual commercial Makarov. Those mags are for a CZ-82, which is a pistol in 9x18 "Makarov caliber," but not an actual Makarov.

I think you're looking for one like this:

Sorry to say this, but good luck. They're rare. The good news is that you can put a standard single-stack eight-round Makarov magazine in your commercial Makarov. At least that's what I've heard -- the double-stack mags narrow to a single-stack feed lip. The mag will fit loose at the bottom of the mag well, but it will work, or so they say.

I've found them at gun shows but they are rare. The asking price is between $45 and $55; that is almost half of what I paid for the gun in 1996.

The part of the magazine that sits on top of the spring is called the 'follower'. It's the part that the bottommost bullet rests on.

It's possible that a follower from a standard single-stack magazine would fit, but that's just a guess. Single-stack mags are inexpensive, and as the previous poster said, it might work as a substitute anyway. I'd suggest finding a single stack mag, trying a parts swap first, and if that fails, just trying the new mag on its own. Perhaps a few layers of tape around the bottom will help it fit better until a proper replacement could be found.

He needs the magazine pictured, for an actual commercial Makarov. Its not the CZ-82. His magazine looks just like the commercial Makarov mag pictured, but not thumb lever on the top of the magazine.
Thanks for the info on the magazine terminology with the "follower." We actually have tried using a single stack makarov mag in the double stack makarov gun with no luck, it didnt feed into the gun. But also, looking at the two followers, they are both very different and can't be interchanged. The double stack follower is triangular shaped and is wide at the double stack part of the mag and narrows at the top where it narrows down to feed into the chamber. Thanks for the help so far, Im all ears to any other ideas.

I use to have a double stack mak and I ran 8 rounders in it. Maybe you should try a different mag. Mark
