Making a 366 Rigby

8 lbs is kind of heavy, I like to set my rifles at 3.
Light enough for controlled shots and heavy enough for hunting situations.

Is it by choice or by restrictions of he trigger?
It's just how many double triggers are. Even 10lbs is not uncommon. This one I don't think has the original paw, I may make a new one some day and we if it lowers the poundage.

Saturday, and all morning I've been about to go and do something with the rifle.
I think I've worked on it just about every free time I've had since Christmas so suddenly going cold turkey is frustrating.

The gunsmith is also s sales representative and on the roads this week, so I won't even get updates or questions :(

I wish I could just go and buy another project rifle.

I try to keep at least one on hand, with a good bet there will be two stashed away for rainy months.....like this last one.
It helps keep the completely functional, and already set up guns from getting molested. unfortunately it's been raining for over a month now, and I'm all out too.......

I've been googling Jim Corbett and his 275 Rigby rifle tonight. Even saw an old English film on YT, he's carrying a double in that one.

The rifle he got for killing the maneater of Champawat is basically just what I had in mind when I started this. I wish I'd seen it earlier, then I could have used it as a model.

But then I would have made a replica, not my own preferences in 366 Nitro Express 2 1/4, which should be the caliber since Rigby is a trademark.

But I realized that even though the rifle will be finished soon, there's more to do.

It'll need a case, oh goody!

One of my all-time favorite authors. Corbett wrote his books decades after the events, entirely from memory and typing with two fingers. Incidentally, his works are all still in print from Oxford Press, India -- all profits from his first book went to aid blinded Commonwealth servicemen.

An amazing man.

I've yet to read them, don't know if they were ever translated to Swedish, but I can surely get them from the UK.

You might like this, not really an action movie but lots of tigers and moustaches.

Their Scottish heritage shows, they sell rifles easily above $20 000 but they use a free font in their logo :D

Made a minor adjustment to mine

I've been thinking about sights while waiting for the checkering.

I'm not going to scope this rifle but I'm clearly having the onset of presbyopia, guess it happens to us all eventually, so I thought that a peep sight might be a good idea.
I've shot a lot of air rifles with peep sights, and they increase the focal length which would be beneficial to the eyes.

I'd really like the bolt mounted Rigby style sights, and they are pure awsomeness.

They are also quite expensive and I've just about thrown as much monies as can almost be explained to SWHBO on the rifle so another $300 for the sight + $200 for installation and then $100 for finishing and whatnots is right out.

But what they really are, are a fancier stem peep sight with the ability to be zeroed for several preset distances.
Something a like Lyman #2 could easily be adapted to sit on the cocking piece and since I hunt in close woodland a zero at 100m would cover every shot I can make.

You don't happen to have something similar in a parts box somewhere to experiment with?
Looks are totally unimportant as long as isn't bent or something.

super work, I only wish I could do that, but I,m all thumbs and have trouble with tooth picks. I only have four custom rifles and the one I like the most is this high number 03 springfield( third from the top) in 3006. I just about didn,t buy it as I have several 3006,s, but it said please take me home and I bought it at a auction at a estate sale. I wish I knew who built it, but as the original owner had passed and the sale was of his items by non hunting relitives the history is lost. its a joy to carry and shoots one-two inch groups at one hundred yards with my handloads, 165gr nosler bullets at 2650 fps.

That's some very nice rifles indeed!

Classic fleur de lis checkering and a little schnabel as well.
Do the checkering under the bolt handle have a purpose or is it just a decoration?

You're thinking something like the Lyman 1A?

I've lusted after one of these for some time. The nice thing about them is that you can fit one to a spare cocking piece and firing pin. That way you can have your sight without altering the original rifle in any way, plus you can easily switch back to bare cocking piece if you break the thing or decide you don't need it for a particular purpose.

YES!
That is exactly what I was envisioning.
I expect they are also scarcer than hens teeth and cost an arm and a leg and a half.

It also makes it clear that the sights I've looked at speculatively are much to tall to be of use.

It's a real pita to try to design stuff when you can't take measurements :(

I have one of those sights, not mounted on a cocking piece, let me get some pics this afternoon and if you want it we can look into shipping it over. Might be cheaper than sourcing one close by. I got the sight in a loose parts box, I'd gladly donate it to such a fine rifle project...

I am flabbergasted, if that's the correct word!

A thank you doesn't even come close.

That kind of sight isn't used over here at all
