A pard took this photo of me shooting my Henry at a CAS match a few months ago. Thought you all might find it interesting.

That is a cool action shot. On a related note, why do they not allow competitors to fully load repeating shotguns? If it is supposed to be a realistic competition, I think, just my opinion, that shotguns should be allowed to be loaded to full magazines. I'm just wondering, is all.

Now THAT is how it's done! If it doesn't stink of sulfur, it's not the old west in my book.

What are the specs on that iron?

What gave you the idea it is supposed to be realistic? CAS is not historical re-enactment. It is a fantasy game. Pump shotguns are only allowed to be loaded with two rounds so they do not have an advantage over a SXS.

By the way, this is a very controversial rule and is always being argued.

Uberti replica of the 1860 'iron frame' Henry. Chambered for 44-40. Cartridges loaded with about 35 grains of FFg Schuetzen and a 200 grain Big Lube Mav-Dutchman bullet lubed with SPG.

Brings to mind the line from "Silverado": "You ever seen what a Henry rifle can do in the hands of an expert?"

Annihilator, SASS is not an historically accurate game. It actually relates more to the B Western movies of the '40's and '50's. Most folks try to be at least close to historically accurate, but nobody is gonna check your underwear to see if it is period correct.

Two other Cowboy Action Sanctioning groups are Western Action Shooters Association and National Coalition of Cowboy Shooters. They are both more demanding of historical accuracy. Neither are as popular as SASS.

When SASS started SXS shotguns were required. Then someone said, "What about the Winchester '97? It would be fun too." So they wrote a rule that said you could use it, but only load two at a time, just like the SXS shooters. Personally, I think they should be required to actually load two, as opposed to single loading and slam firing. But that's just me. I'm not gonna quit because I don't agree with all the rules.
