Very interesting gun. I know nothing about these, what is up with the double trigger?
the back one sets it and the front one is so light you breath on it and it will trip.

in this lot there were a few that had the double trigger on them. have not gotten around to all of them yet.

no, i just ordered some cerrosafe.

id just take it to the gun shop and try some ammo there but everyone is out of everything odd.
Follow instructions that come with. I just plug bore in front of chamber heat and pour.

alright got the chamber cast this morning, it appears to be very very close to the 7x57, its all within a few hundredths of the case dimensions i pulled up online for that round.

7x57 was the first choice on many of these and youre probably correct. As it appears unproofed (which is very, very odd) it may require further investigation by a smith willing to warrant his inspection and possibly do a test fire of the barreled action alone. The fired case may tell the tale. If it works out a nicely done, correct caliber marking might be a thought.

we did find some 7mm Mauser in the ammo pile that came with this estate, so it makes more sense now, too bad the ammo was 300 miles from me when testing.

7x57 Mauser is an excellent all around caliber. If your eyes work better than mine, that iron sight set up is quite useful. The British thought so well of the caliber it was renamed .275 Rigby and built with Mauser action on nice wood stocks. Quite useful for most game.

The full forend is what is known widely as a mannlicher stock, but that style was (is) quite popular in Europe and does not guarantee Mannlicher participation in production.
