March Mail in Match for Fellow THR Members

The age-old handgun debate -- 9mm vs. .45 ACP. Firepower vs. heft. John Moses Browning vs. some German fellow named Luger. Venerable steel vs. upstart plastic. Velocity vs. a piece of lead the size of a dinner plate. Pull out your favorite 20th Century military-based sidearm and head to the range.

For this month's match, shoot both 9mm and .45 ACP if you've got 'em. Two entries are allowed per class if you have a stock, improved and scoped version of both featured weapon (Open Class is still for those poor souls with neither).

Stock class includes a standard, out of the box 9mm or .45 ACP pistol with no trigger improvements, improved barrels, match bushings or significant gunsmith work. Improved includes any of the above and/or a production pistol from RRA, Les Baer, etc. with any guarantee of MOA.

10 shots standing, with no support, one or two-handed at 10 yards.

Shoot safely and good luck!

The March Target is available here

We'll get February's scores up ASAP. I'll let ReadyontheRight 'splain why this is late :D

Sorry I was late with the Mail in Match stuff this month, but so was my wife 9 months ago (cue the drums - ba-dump-bump), we had a new baby last week :D and I'm just now catching up.

February's .22 plinker results will be posted this weekend. Lots of great shooting! Thanks again to Bedlamite for hosting the Mail in Match site and all the help!

Good luck and safe shooting!

Congrats on the baby, but that is why when you have been shooting at the range all day with your SO you are supposed to dance the night away. Dancing does not mean the Horizontal Tango!;)

Congrats on the baby! I have a 4 month old. If this is your first, there are some surprises ahead.

I'm think I'm gonna have to get in on this mail-in action...

ROTR,
Congrats on the baby!!!!!! I wondered where you'd been the last few weeks.
Enjoy them while their small. They grow fast. Then they want to shoot your guns.

Scott

I like it! I think I made this suggestion didn't I? Wow, now I am excited. Good thing it wasn't .40 S&W. I still don't have any plinking ammo loaded!!! I am so broke I haven't been able to buy 1000 bullets for $40! I think I have enough 9mm around and I know I have enough .45 ACP. Good match this month. Can't wait for the Feb results.

Congrats on the baby. I have a seven month old son and I completely understand where you are coming from. One word of advice take a lot of pictures or videos, they will be changing on a daliy basis.

Is it a boy or girls?

Much congrats

Mine just turned 16 and I still concider him a blessing.

Guess I'll sit out this month, I don't have a 9 or a 45.:( Not sure how that happened.

There's still an "Open" class for any handgun. Go for it. Time to dust off the G21 that I haven't shot since I discovered revolvers.

Oh and bedlamite, could you also post this in the Competition section. The moderators have agreed to make a stick of the link to the match page that you point us too. That way I won't have to keep searching up monthly posting.

Gotta 9mm and .45 neither is millitary though (4506 and 639) can I still play:uhoh:

Does installation of night sights count as moving into the improved class?

Does installation of a short trigger (for Sigs) count as moving into the improved class?

Does installation of Hogue or aftermarket wood grips count as moving into the improved class?

I'm very unclear on what constitutes 'improved' class.

I was looking for another excuse to go to the range (that she hadn't heard in the last week)!:D

I'll even ride my mountain bike to the range for this one. It'll be my desert bi(ke)athalon.:D

Thanks for all the kind words THR members. Our little girl is doing great. I can't wait until she joins her brother and sister with me "hunting" (with Daisy Red Riders) one of these Fall days.:)

I am still learning about guns, and I cannot possibly list every possible improvement for every model, so I am leaving "improved" vs. "stock" up to you shooters. Grips and night sights don't seem like accuracy improvements to me.

If you've dumped a lot of time or money into an improved barrel, trigger work, fitted bushing or other accuracy improvements, count it as improved.

This is a great idea! i wanna play, but when i print the target, all i get is a black square!Any idea what i'm doing wrong?

I think we ought to decide on aftermarket trigger modifcations being either improved or not. I could care less myself because I am still in the stock class and I really don't care if I win or not, I just view this as a good reason for me to get out and shoot. However, I can see this being a point of contention on this one. What do you guys think? Are aftermarket trigger mods reason to bump up to improved class?

We've gotten a lot more people posting than submitting targets. Lets see if we can change that this month.

As usual, My answer to the 9vs45 question is 10mm :neener:

Maybe one of the mods could move the MIM posts over to the Competitions forum?

Target paper vs. paper target

Well, I didn't shoot the Pepsi can last month, as I was basking in the open class win from Jan. And my kid has my .22 rifle in Indiana. I don't know why he didn't shoot. In any case, I printed out the target on the back of a standard pistol target, and it worked really well. I just taped it to the center of a sheet of ink-jet paper and fed it through my printer. Beautiful! If you have some old targets you might give it a try.
