Marine Corps Sets Sights On More Precise Shooting

Why wasn't this an MOS option for me???

It was. First you have to be a basic armorer (2111). Then, if you're good enough at what you do, you might get selected for duty at Quantico and get a 2112 MOS code (Rifle Team Equipment Repairer).

From what I've been told, most armorers that get a slot, were actually noticed and tagged at the basic school. They're career is watched, and if they do excellent work and maintain themselves as a good Marine, they just may get approved for a slot.

If it really doesn't work out someone can always go the career route of a friend of mine. He worked as a armorer on Camp Pendleton and after 12 years and completion of his Masters he became a Navy Chaplain.

(He was treated with a bit of deference by the USMC NCOs teaching knife and fork school to the new chaplains and it only took the Navy a couple of years later to realize he might be more useful to a USMC unit than a Navy ship.)
