    We need more info like the first 4 digits of the serial number would help:)

    That's not a 1948 rifle. From 1972 until Remington started making them you could subtract the 1st 2 digits from 100 to get DOM. So 40 would be 1960, but being that doesn't fit either. If it were 04, then it would have been 1996. Remington, and now Ruger are using a different method.

    Yours is a fairly recent production rifle but I'm not up to speed on anything after Marlin shut down their factory. There should be some information stamped on it somewhere indicating Remington or Ruger manufacture. But I'm simply out of the loop on the newer rifles.

    Right, I have an MR06XXX stamped S/N that is easier to date
    I’ll get better photos after work

    I fat fingered the S/N. It’s 04XXX so 1996 model?

    Yep that’s a great model and a great cartridge to have it in if I looked right it says .35 Rem that’s what mine is mine was made in 82’ and I love it
