Marlin 917VRX

I was at Wal-Mart looking at .22lr rifles at around $200 and noticed the Marlin 917VRX in .17 hmr. What the deal on this rifle? It looks to be the Wal-Mart only version and I could not find much info online (my Google-foo was weak). I'm liking the idea of a .17 at .22 price but I don't want to buy a junk rifle. What's the skinny?

I had a Marlin heavy barrel, stainless, with laminate stock, in .17hmr (dont remember exact model). It was a great shooter, especially after the addition of a rifle basix trigger. Shot great at 100 yards and no recoil at all. Only downside of .17 bore's is the little teeny-tiny barrel to clean.
