Marlin has new 45-70 model - GSBL

Was poking on Marlin site and saw this. Hadn't hear about it so thought I'd mention it here.

Stainless steel 45-70 with a black coating. Has 18" barrel, WWG big lever loop, Williams fire sight sights, a green laminate stock painted with some black in it.

I can see where this may have some appeal. Obviously i,can also see where some won't like it. I like seeing Marlin rolling out new versions of lever actions. Means the worse times are in the past.

I think there is also a limited edition 1895 with 24" octagon barrel. Maybe more stuff as well.

That limited looks right up my alley but considering it's "limited" I'm betting just buying a cowboy and slapping some gbl furniture on it will be cheaper

 

I like the look of it. Here's hoping they've subdued the remlin gremlins.

Can't get them to make an 1894C since 2012, but they are bringing out a limited attraction 1895?

I like it but would prefer a black stock.

 

Can't say the green laminate stock with black webbing does much for me in terms of visual appeal. Would greatly prefer a decent walnut stock instead.

 

94C was expected last September, delayed by several things, should be out shortly.

I bought a crappy Remlin 1895 in 2011 that I paid a lot of money out of my pocket to fix to get it running properly. Since then I have kept a close eye on the Marlin lever actions. Of the three that I've handled in the last six months, all were good enough that I would have bought them without complaint.

 

My guess is they have the 1895 line humming along so it's easy to just make a different version 1895. For the 1894s they have to sort out the mfg issues. I'm glad at least they stopped turning out crap product till they get it sorted out. I'm sure at some point the 1894s will be out again.

 

Marlin actually has some other surprises in the works, too.
They might make some people quite happy.

I don't think the large loop lever looks very good with the modern green furniture, but otherwise interesting

The limited edition model looks nice, but I would prefer a more traditional checkering pattern for the furniture but that's just me.

 

Marlin has been saying the same thing since 2nd quarter 2013...

The 1894 (.44 Mag) has been out sporadically for well over a year...But, there are none available currently on Gallery Of Guns...1894C is listed as 'Allocated'...

However, they did add an 1894CB in .45 Colt that they also are not producing...

 

I'm more than okay with companies trying new things.

I had, almost a year ago, one of a small batch of new 94cs from Marlin that were test guns arising out of the resurrection program.
It showed clear improvements.

I wrote it up for a Kindle book.
Since then, I've been talking irregularly with the product manager involved.
There HAS been progress & the gun should be out shortly.

That is good to hear. I've been hankering to get one as well.

 

And I'm working on a sample of the new GSBL for another Kindle now.

I really like that new model. I have had my GG for about 16 years and it is a great rifle. I hope the quality is back. I know that Remington worked hard to get all the bugs out....

 

I've had this one for 15 years and love it.

 

I was but ended up getting the browning 22 lever action. I've been happy with it. In truth, I'd likely enjoy any 22 lever action.

 

i'm torn over the 1895g vs the 1895gbl but I like the 1895gbl in looks but the 1895g fits very well!

 

I'm almost afraid t ask this question, but has the quality of the Remington Marlins improved in the past few years? I have a number of older Marlins and love them, but seem to recall a lot of "Remlin" bashing based on the initial products put out after the Remington takeover of Marlin.

I would love to hear that the quality is back where it was! I actually really like the synthetic green stock.

Yes.
They've been working on QC & there's a different bunch in charge now than when the Marlin move was done.
