Marlin is closed?

Yup. It's gone now. They cleaned off the graffiti and I haven't seen it back, but yes. Someone had the nerve to tag the Marlin plant.
I've actually been hoping someone buys that building to turn it into a CT firearms museum. Think about the brands that have manufactured in CT (some still here, and some have either closed up or moved).
We start out with Eli Whitney and move into Colt, Marlin, Winchester, Ruger, Mossberg, USFA, Charter Arms, CT Valley Arms, Connecticut Shotgun, etc...
It would be really nice to have a museum to display our pride in our manufacturing history. Somehow I get the feeling our esteemed governor would not allow this...

Marlin most certainly did start out in NEW Haven...
"John M. Marlin was born in Connecticut in 1836, and served his apprenticeship as a tool and die maker. During the Civil War, he worked at the Colt plant in Hartford, and in 1870 hung out his sign on State Street, New Haven, manufacturing his own line of revolvers and derringers."

I have a Marlin single shot .22 I purchased in 1962, and the barrel is marked with New Haven as the location of Marlin at that time. I do remember that I paid under $20 for the rifle. I was 14 at that time.

Thanks for posting that link. Some think and insist they are right. But that doesn't make it so. I guess the M36 30-30 lever action I have is either a one of a kind or a fake. It is stamped New Haven, Conn.
Yeah Scooter they were in Conn. for 141 years but it was NORTH Haven, not NEW Haven.

It's a damn shame what happened to the gun industry in CT. These Aholes here in NY almost pushed Remington out with the unSAFE act. They are up for their 200 year anniversary in a couple years. The sniper rifle contract made them deal with the devil but the jobs will stay and more will be added.

Yeah I was wrong about the New Haven thing. I've seen a whole bunch of sources of info that were wrong too. That's why I was wrong. Go figure.
It's a shame what has happened to guns in CT period. I don't think the 60 would be legal to own much less manufacture there now. They have become the poster child for the gun grabbers gaggle.

Marlins are being manufactured in Ilion, NY and Kentucky. The CF lever actions are in NY. I don't know what else. Seems the .22s are in NC. Don't know where the XL7 is made but the barrel is attached with a splined nut just like a Savage 110.

Correct on the Ilion plant, my thoughts were on the leverguns which have suffered the most from quality issues.
Remington told me the rimfires are made in their Kentucky plant a while back.
Only "headquarters" in NC. No manufacturing there.

I recently bought an new production Ilion-marked 1894C in 357/38 Special. It seems no lesser in fit/finish than any late-production unit made in North Haven (which is to say less finely finished than units made in 'the good old days' but still servicable).
