All this talk on the Forum of .22 autoloaders got me to bring my Marlin out to the range today for a short session after work. The problem was when I tried to adjust the rear sight for windage it would meander back after a few shots. Tap it to the right, realize I was shooting to the left after a few shots, check it and sure enough the sight drifted back to the left. Tap it to the right, realize I'm shooting to the left, etc., etc., repeat. Any ideas?

All I can say is Techsights. They will run you about seventy five dollars from their website.

I attended an appleseed shoot this weekend and was the main sight on all the instructors rifles and when I used them it was fantastic. They will mount onto your 60's scope mount. They are elevation and windage adjustable also. Then get a speed-e-loader for twenty dollars and your set for a ton of range fun.

If your dovetail slot is loose there are a couple of things you can do to fix it.

Take the rear sight off and use a center punch to make a couple of dimples in the bottom of the dovetail. This will raise the metal a little. You can also tap the lips at the top up the dovetail and bend them down a little. This should tighten up the slot and hold the sight.

When adjusting this type of sight I will slide a blank address label under the point at the front of the sight base. I then use a pen or pencil with a small nib and I trace around the point on the sight. Now when I move the sight I can see exactly how much I moved it. Once you get the sight set you can use a center punch and dimple the metal into the sight to hold it in place.

It don't think there is a way to remove the rear sight. To fix it your way Ratshooter.
If you bend it where you want it then it springs back too far so you bend it past where you want it to get it to stay put.
Tried it and it seems to have done the trick. Not fancy, but whatever works.

I don't think I've ever used the irons on my Marlin 60. Put a scope on it the day I got it.

The reason I bought it was that my 10/22 wasn't accurate enough to make it worth using a scope.:D

that is right; score the metal a bit, can even be done with just a screwdriver, score the bottom of the sight, and inside the dovetail. also, when you get it out, i bet it's got oil or something, on the bottom of the sight, and inside the dovetail. clean this all out with alcohol.

My old Glenfield rear sight rubs on the AO ring on my scope, so I took it off today. It drifts left to right.
