I have recently aquired one of these (at a fantastic price I must say). Its a real neat knife and quality (as are all spyderco's). the design is different from your average lockblede with a different feel and an upswept blade. It does feel real good in my hand and is now my primary carry knife(along with the leatherman "wave" tool).
so does anybody know the ideas behind this knife? or even the story why spyderco had ayoob design it? Did ayoob design it of just tell them what he wanted to see in it? any history on the blade would be intresting to have.

I haven't seen one yet, but the pictures do look cool. Weird, but interesting. I'm sure the "pistol-grip" grip angle makes for a powerful slash, but I wonder if it's a bit inconvenient for day-to-day tasks?
(I know--a true Tactical Folder should not be dulled with daily tasks. But I still slice up apples before I eat 'em.) :neener:

The Ayoob model is part of a series of knives that Spyderco developed with the help of a group of experts on personal defense. I'm not sure who the others are, I think there were about five models.

Looks interesting but I am also addicted to the wace mechanism. I think it is bar far the fastest knife into action, maybe faster than allot of fixed blades (depending on sheath) and certainly faster than my auto's.
