Picked up a FN 98 30-06 in a pawnshop yesterday. Very good condition, three leaf/flip rear sight, FN Herstal Belgium made, FN crest, stock has no checkering or cheek pad, 4 digit serial #, has weaver mounts and rings, fairly plain gun but obviously quality. Price was good so its mine, any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Sounds like an FN sporter imported in the 1950's-1960's time frame. The stock may not be original as IIRC, those FN rifles all had checkered stocks. They were fine rifles, very accurate. Values in top condition run around $600-700 in the books, but they usually sell for less than that.

Thanks - seems to be a good gun, classic mauser design, great shooter.
