I just ordered a new M88 18.5" from Bud's Gun Shop here; http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/37_591/products_id/42605 and I was wondering about the aftermarket options for it.

I know they are 90% the same as a Mossberg 500, being made by Mossberg. I had read somewhere that the newer ones' receivers differ from the 500s though, can anyone confirm this?

I was looking to get some new stocks for it, and possibly a side-saddle ammo holder. Any and all options/ suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

P.S. - I'm not fond of folding or wire stocks, so forget those.

The safety on 88s is behind the trigger, not on the tang like the 500.

The accessory you need most is ammo.

Enjoy......

Ah man I just got one for 219 and it was the field one from sports authority. I want the 18 barrel. Only got it because they gave a 50 buck gift card with it.

Anyone know if barrel compatible and where

From what I understand, everything but fore ends are interchangeable with 500 aftermarket parts

I like SideSaddles, some folks don't. Make sure you get the model that is compatible with your forearm- if the forearm covers part of the receiver with the action open, you will likely need to get the 4-round version instead of the six-round version.

Beyond that, the best accessory is wear marks.

Does the finish match up also?

It looks like Cabellas has a 18.5 barrl for 90 bucks.

I thought mossberg had better finish. Why would anyone get the 500/590 then?

So is the fore grip on a Maverick not removable? Or are there aftermarket fore grips available? I've been told the Maverick's fore grip is not great.

The Maverick forearm is the same style (appearance, and feel to the hand) as the polymer M500.
The difference is the Maverick forearm has the action bars pinned right into the forearm and it is made to work without an action slide tube.
To use M500 forearms on a Maverick, you need to buy an M500 action tube with the arms, and a M500 forearm. IT's an easy swap, if you want to bother, but I had a Hogue forearm and it was identical to the Maverick forearm in appearance.

IMHO, I have a Maverick and several M500s. The M500 barrel fits right on a Maverick (assuming the mag tube is the same length) and a M500 buttstock does, too. I bought a new 18.5" Mossberg barrel for my Maverick and put the vent-rib from the Maverick on one of my nicer M500's to replace a smooth top barrel.

I use the Maverick as my HD shotgun.

The only accessory I can honestly recommend for a HD shotgun is a good sling, and a couple cases of shells to go shoot it and get used to it.

The original stocks are good, especially if you are not interested in folders. I put a Hogue Overmolded butt on my Maverick because I had one, and it's pretty nice. Good grip even wet or sweaty. Honestly if length of pull is good for you, a new buttstock isn't going to make it better.
