Does anyone know if the Mossberg 500 and Maverick 88 magazine tubes have different size threads?
I recently bought a Axeon Shotlight that comes with 3 adapters for different shotguns and the Mossberg 500 is listed and I assumed the Maverick 88 and the 500 where the same being that you can swap barrels etc..
But the Mossberg 500 adapters male thread is way to small and will not screw into my 88 Magazine..
Thanks for any suggestions in advance..

I found a video review where one person installed one on their 88 with no mentioned issues. I know whenever I take my Mav 88 apart, the end of the magazine tube and the barrel clamp always feel mismatched and take a few turns to start threading together. That may be the case for you if you aren't used to it.

One fix that might work for you is to get an authentic magazine tube that is Mossberg. They run about $50 on Numrich.

I've seen this video once before. The threads on the MB 500 adapter are to small and pull right out of the end of the mag tube. I more or less was just looking to verify if the treads were different on the Maverick.

The threads should be the same. But there are very few things for certain with firearms. I have put Mossberg 500 barrels on my 88 without any issue. Instead of reaching out to Mossberg I would contact Axeon instead. They might have labeled their adapter incorrectly or you got a defective one.

I put a 88 mag tube and forearm on an old 500. The tube just screwed right into the receiver. The barrel retaining knob also just screwed right in.

I don’t mean to derail this thread but have a

Question: HOW DO Y’ALL GO ABOUT REMOVING THE MAG TUBE FROM YOUR 88’s the first time?

Does it require judicious heating of the metal, the first time? (I.e. a heat gun?)

I bought a used but like new Maverick (please don’t ask me how much I overpaid the older, single mom for it because she was selling it and a few other .22’s, etc. to raise money to help her daughter who was in a bad, bad, situation through no fault of her own) and it drives me to distraction not to be able to clean absolutely every facet of any firearm I own, if the need should ever arise (sudden rainstorm at the range, etc.)

I want to be able to remove the mag tube but, I don’t want to even approach using brute force, ever, on any mag tube ...

I had the same problem with my Mossberg 500. They use Loc-tite on the threads. First try a rubber strap wrench. Maybe even one of those rubber gripper pads they sell to help open jars. If none of that works then heat.

Mine had RED loctite keeping the magazine tube in place. I managed to get it off with a vice, strap wrench, and heat. If you have Kroil oil, that should help as well.

Heat the receiver with a triger torch on low heat due to the loctite. I just had to replace my receiver on my 8 shot Maverick 88. Apparently it wasn't machined right and kept sticking & jamming up when I would pump it and nothing I did would correct it. This video is the best one I could find to assist.

Forgot to mention I also put one of these neat aluminum magazine followers in when I had it apart too. These followers will fit Mossberg 500 & Mav 88 mag tubes as well as the Remington 870.

Whomever decided the magazine follower should be black needs to be fired. Hard to tell when you are empty in anything but bright light. I put a Choate hi-viz follower in my 88. Took a few tries to get the length reduced to hold all the shells it should. Doing it again, I would just get the aluminum one and save the work.
