Mcgar mags any good?

Mecgar mags are the best, and often OEM.
I only have one pistol that dislikes MecGar mags. It's a custom shop Kimber 1911A1, and it only likes Wilson Combat mags. Otherwise, MecGar is the bomb. I even use them in Lugers, which are the most finicky handgun out there, it seems.

Thanks. How many mags per hand gun do you guys like to put back? I have been focusing on rifles, lots of AR and AK mags, but I neglected my handgun mags. I don't focus on mags like Colt 1911 mags mags or anything under 10 rounds as the antis don't go after those for now. I did put back some KCI G19 and 33 round mags.

Just bought a few for my RIA 1911 CS 9mm . In addition to the one that was supplied as OEM from the manufacturer. They work well.

If you want a dependable magazine get a factory magazine just like the magazine that came with the gun. I use Mec Gar magazines but the original factory magazine was made by MecGar.

I asked that same question years ago sbd got the same answer. They are excellent quality. I tend to make sure that I have at least 4 for each gun, but have more for others.

Mec-Gar mags are excellent, except I had some really sucky 1911 mecgar mags with sticky followers.

They are the OEM mags for many SiGs and CZ's, and are very high quality. Their high-cap non-OEM mags are even higher quality IMO, with better finishes and a more attractive base-plate. The flush-mount 18 round mags for my P226 are a step above the OEM, as are the 20 round +2's.
From reading this thread, they apparently excell at making double-stack high-caps, maybe not so much 1911's. They are Italian, maybe they are still pissed over WWII and are not interested in feeding our .45's

Not sure what you mean by "put back"; everything we have gets used often. For me and my wife it's a minimum of five magazines per gun. Neither of us mind loading them, but prefer to do it at home and not on the firing line more than once. My son sees no need for more than two per gun.
Some guns get greater than five if the normal capacity is say seven or so as with our Glock 42 and Ruger LC9s guns. Usually ten or so for them. Same for the 1911.
Magazines are a lot like ammunition ... can't have too much or too many. Storage can be a problem, but labeled CED six pack magazine pouches take care of that.
I buy non Glock magazines from two sources: OEM and Mec-Gar. Sometimes they're one in the same.
I went to buy an extra (3rd) 16 round mag for my CZ 75B. The LGS had the CZ factory mag (made by MecGar) for $50.00 and right next to it they also had the 75B MecGar branded mag for $30.00, so I saved the $20.00. The only difference between these is the MecGar branding and it functions perfectly along with the 2 factory mags.

I like to also have four spares for pistols, but for our range favorites I like to have enough mags to load up 2-300 rounds loaded up in advance for a steel plate outing.
Because of their lower cost I've bought lots of Mec-Gar mags over the years and have been completely satisfied.

Their 1911 mags are not the greatest (not terrible - just not best - Wilson Combat or Chip McCormick tend to be great there).
For just about everything else they're superb.

I have 4 for my RIA 1911. 1 factory, 3 purchased afterwards. All four 8 rounders have worked flawlessly for me through a couple of thousand rounds now of factory and handloads.

Range toy? at least 2. Real use/competition gun, at least 6, IMO. More is always better.

Love my browning hi power mecgar magazines. Work as well as factory, just don't have the mousetrap spring on the back. They still drop free!

They lack the dimple and various base plates supplied over the years sometimes don't play nice with some mag wells -- like on my SIG Tac-Ops.
But if they fit and lock in my experience has been that they work.

As stated by others, the OEM mags shipped with a lot of handguns are Mec-Gar and simply stamped with the pistol makers logo. Buy them and use them.
The issue mentioned with 1911 mags has two sources. First, some pistols have modified magazine wells and the Mec-Gar baseplate does not work well. The other issue is the popularity of more than seven round mags for the 1911. Don't do it. Most are made with a seven round magazine body and the inside (spring and follower) modified to fit eight rounds. Bad JuJu. Either buy a magazine with a body designed for more than seven rounds or just buy seven round mags. You can't put ten pounds of of nails* in a five pound bag.
*It ain't nails, but you get the drift...
