Took my CZ 457 .22 mag to the range a while back and shot it off a Harris bipod and rear bag.
First shot was half inch high at 50 yards, the next into a decent group below.
Checked and the bbl not free floated. Let it cool, same results.
Last yr I zeroed it off a front bag, not as far out along the forend, and it shot well.

So.....since I'm lazy and hate doing any wood work (have bedded rifles perfectly before but just don't want the hassle anymore)......
ordered an MDT field stock.

My .22 mag is a sporter 24". Now I could test the free float effect in the new MDT stock.
But the gun looks a bit silly and the rings a little low (usable).

So what does this all mean?

I have to work on the factory walnut and free float it. Ugh

And buy a CZ457 20" target .22 lr to put in this MDT stock LOL

I'll play with the Savage Anschutz 54 sporter but it'll probably end up going bye bye.
With my 1516 sporter and a CZ 457 target, I won't need the 54.

The 54 is heavy like a centerfire and while they 54 may be better than the 64 action,
it's too heavy for me to use as a hunter.

So get a .457 .22 lr, finish my FAL build and maybe get a 6.5 PRC and Im done messin' with this stuff.

Ditch the 54, the Savage MKII TR and my Steyr PH .30-06
Get three, dump three..............done.

Of course then there's the upgrade optics nonsense that follows.
But at least I'll be done visiting gunshops.

They aint like they used to be anyway.

Dropped the .22 mag 457 into it to test this coming weekend.
Sporter looks silly in it, but it will tell me what I need to know.
May just get a .22 lr conversion (bbl and mag) and make it a target rimfire.
Slapped a scope on the 9422M so have a magnum for chucks if need be.
Man those Winchester iron sights suck, didn't like em even when I was a kid LOL

Using an Area 419 rail, I can get by w Burris med signature Zees and slap a backup scope on for testing.
Gets it up a little so the adj comb helped there.
Looks goofy w a 40mm obj scope, sporter bbl and the MDT stock.
But its good enough to test some things.

May keep the rifle in walnut and free float, if bbl proves OK.
If so, then I'll need another 457 to "fill in" the MDT stock.
