Meprolight night sights for PPS have very poor fit. What kind of file to use?

Hi everyone,

I ran into a problem when trying to install new Meprolight night sights on my PPS. The front sight base is too long and doesn't lay flat on the slide like it's supposed to. I read that this was a common issue for the PPS Meprolights, but I took my chances anyways because I prefer the sight picture over Trijicons. Anyhow, the pics below comparing the factory front sight to the Meprolight front sight demonstrate the obvious problem here. It looks like I should be able to file down the two front corners of the sight base to get it to lay down flat on the slide.

My question is, what kind of file would be ideal for this really small job? I have a flat file that is pretty rough and I'm thinking there has to be a better file for this job that will leave the bottom surface really smooth (I will need to take some metal off along the bottom edge of the sight face as well to get it to clear that curve in the "sight pocket" of the slide).

Also, would you guys recommend touching up with a blueing pen or is this a complete waste of time? Not sure how likely it would be for the front sight to develop rust in the first place since it will likely sit in that "pocket" and not get too exposed to corrosive elements.

A set of needle files might work.
Unless the sight is harder then the files are.

A whetstone will cut it.
As would 240 black emery paper laid on a hard flat surface.

I ended up getting some 150 grain paper and a 320 super fine sanding sponge. I think I can remove most of the metal with the 150 grain on a hard flat surface as rcmodel suggested and then I am hoping to polish it with the 320 sponge. Going to try this tomorrow after work and I'll report back.

Still unsure if a blueing pen is worth it. Anyone with experience care to comment?
