Oh Hi Oh
Anyone out there with a S&W a 908 who has replaced the plastic guide rod with a metal rod? If so, where did you purchase the rod?

I used to own a 908...you can replace the recoil guide rod with the steel one from the 3913 model...its the same gun rounded out with some checkering added

I had a 908 that was sent back to S&W for repair. I asked for a replacement stainless guide rod which they supplied. I understand it is a 3913 rod cut down. Call them at custom service. Maybe if you're nice you can get it free...it's Christmas time. If that doesn't work, you could contact Steve Bedair here: http://bedair.org/P226/Guiderod.html. I've used his services and he is great to deal with.

Thanks. I'll email Steve Bedair and will contact S&W to see what's available. I really like the 908. I have not had it very long but I've put about 300 rounds through it. It's very easy to shoot. I'm thinking a metal guide rod will help reduce some of the muzzle flip I'm experiencing. This is only due to my being used to double-stack 9mms with a little more grip to hang on to. I think this will become one of my favorites.

I replaced the guide rod on my 908S. You can use the standard 3913 rod and if you choose to replace it, the steel disconnector as well.

Recently purchased a model 908 for $395 used about 2 months ago; came with some nice sights and Hogue grips....super reliable and accurate weapon with about 2,000 rounds put through it so far. Thanks for the info on the SS guide rod...this can only make this slim, comfortable, easy to shoot, easy to clean, classic American 9mm even better!

A 908 has become my standard carry semi, it's that good. As others have said, the 3913 recoil spring rod fits. I haven't replaced the rod because I haven't seen any need so far. It's clearly a low stress part. If I were one to put 2000+ rounds a year through a pistol, my opinion might change. I don't put that many rounds through any of my guns, more's the pity. I'm lucky if I put 2,000 pills through all my shooters.:( I clearly need to work on this problem.
