Mexico Demands U.S. Allow More Immigration

Yep. There are too many positions of power that don't want to see the current situation change. The last official poll I saw is that around 75% of Americans wish to see illegal immigration stopped and the borders more guarded, but having our politicians do anything about it is like watching a slug cross a football field. You would think that with such support D.C. would be playing up to it in front of cameras, but powerful lobbying forces behind the scenes should make all of us aware of where the power is on this issue.

$16 billion per year, eh?

Is that based on the official estimate of 14 million in the US? Interestingly enough, NC had an official estimate of illegal border jumpers resident within the state of 300,000 illegals. The state just finished a detailed study // estimate of the illegal population and discovered that the figure was actually >600,000 illegals. Off by a factor of merely 2:1.

If NC is typical, the actual population in the US is 28 million +. Curiously enough Goldman Sachs did a study of the underground economy and concluded the actual illegal population is actually 30 million.

Mexico is getting $32 Billion + annually if its getting a dollar.

I've been hopping up down saying illegal immigration has a whole host of issure wrapped around it. One of which is national sovereignty which we are ceding to international trade organizations. NAFTA, CAFTA, and down the road FTAA. These agreements combined with the pressure applied by basketcases like Mexico are gasoline and fire when it comes to US sovereignty.

I also believe the real number is much--and deliberately--understated. Lots of people have ample reason to fudge the numbers.
