Michigan about to become full blown NFA state?

According to this post, it seems that MI Attorney General Mike Cox has interprited the Law to mean that lawful Michigan residents can have NFA weapons as long as they comply with federal laws.

Now if only we can get some politicians will come to there senses and legalise switchblades, tazers, blackjacks, brass nuckles, expanding batons and effective pepper spray in michigan, then I'll be happy.

I didn't think it was a problem for MI resisdents to have NFA as long as the NFA rules complied with.

I live in Michigan. Wait a sec...does that mean that folding stocks and sound suppressors (those need to be registered with the ATF nationwide) will be legal?
 
Uhh, folding stocks aren't NFA items. NFA items are:

- Full auto guns
- Sound Suppressors
- Short barreled rifles (less than 16")
- Short barreled shotguns (less than 18")
- AOW (Any other Weapon) stuff like pen guns and shotgun pistols.

I'm geeked! Looking for a suppressor for my Walther P22 already.
 
Uh, Cheaper Than Dirt has....

For $500 it better come with the Walther!

Digging around it looks like I'll have to pony up $200-$250 + tax to get one. Not bad. Maybe I'll call the CLEO up in a couple weeks.

A 100% tax is not bad?
 
When I was living in MI a while back, it was a C&R only state, if my memory serves me correctly.

Which means you could have a machine gun, for example, provided it was on the ATF C&R list.

Compared to a few years in the pokey? Yup! :)

I'm not happy about the tax but it's better than nothing.

You are correct, however the entry level C&R stuff is just over 200% the cost of the entry level non-C&R stuff. Besides, even with a C&R you couldn't get a silencer, which the latest AG opinion would appear to allow. MG's and sound supressors are lumped into the same category in the MCL.

Short barreled rifles and shotguns, however, are not... so it looks like those will still be prohibited.

I'll let this sit for a bit, keeping my eye on it, and maybe call up the CLEO in a couple of weeks to see if he's heard of it and if he'll sign off on them.

That is, unless any C&R folks here know if the Kent County Sheriff in MI will sign off on a Form 4 already. Anybody know?
