Shoots from Maryland to California are announced here often.
    I don't recall a Michigan shoot?
    Why not?

For the record: Since I live above the Mackinac Bridge I am NOT a troll.

Well, there seems to be somewheres between 4 & 10 around the Grand Rapids area.Another cluster around Detroit.& a few in the middle of the LP.

I wonder if there is anyplace to meet between, say,Lansing & Houghton Lake?

the last one was at Island Lakes, but I don't think many people actually showed. seems I'm not very good at organizing them. :p

The organization was fine on that one Beretta, just bad luck with the weather on that day. It would have been a cold, wet, crummy day at the range IIRC. When I get back to MI (I'm in VA for the summer) we'll definitely have to try another one.

Island lake was a good range, although not fit for combat handguns with the smallest distance being 25 yards. I'm a great shot, but couldn't hit poop at that range with my g19 or full sized 1911, and especially not a tiny kahr mk9.

I've been to the Firing Line in westland, and while its a great indoor range, I've never felt welcome there as a customer. Despite holding a CCW and being cleancut. I think its simply because I'm under 35, and don't have the beginnings of a beer gut. Not to mention you can't practice double taps.

I've been in double action a couple times, but won't spend any money there. Mostly because their prices are out of control, but also because they are posted AGAINST ccw in their store.

If I had my choice it would be Peters in roseville. Good guys behind the counter, can practice double taps, and reasonable (although still gun shop level) prices.

If we're going to shoot trap and rifle though, you can't beat island lake. I'll be watching for another effort from Beretta. Lets hope for better weather this time. :D

Island Lake may not be available. The local loonies have gone to court and got an injunction against them. :(

The highway noise is louder than the gun shots. I spoke to the NRC chair a week or so ago, and he told me that they plan to stand their ground. If anyone gets a chance, please drop the NRC a line telling them you support them. They've gone to bat for that range consistantly over the last year and have been constantly harrassed by a very small number of local residents.

Barbara, you might want to post an address for the NRC, just in case some people don't know how to contact them.

    Count me in.

I had every intention of making the last one. I live in the down river area about 50 miles from Island Lake and it was raining cats and dogs here that day. I assumed it would put a damper on the whole thing. I spoke to Ron L (THR member) that went anyway. He reported that it was just a drizzle out at Island Lake when he and his son got there. I guess I should have called the range.

Someone had mentioned some federal land near Lapeer or something. That sounds like an option if Island Lake is shut down for any reason.

There is a place near Jackson called Family Shooters Corral that is a private owned range. I haven't been there yet but from what I've heard they offer ranges out to 200yd, defensive pistol shooting out to 7yd, and ( I hope this is true) LOW LIGHT SHOOTING AT DUSK:eek: I'll see if I can find more info on it.

Anyone know of a range located in the Upper Lower?
Most of the ones mentioned so far are 10-12 hours from da U.P.
I'd like to make a MI shoot but, due to family schedules, I'd need at least four to six weeks notice.
I'd like to split the travel distance and shoot around Gaylord.

    Cry me a river, eh?
It's nine hours from my driveway to Gaylord.
(That's if the Trolls aren't clogging up US-2 and the Mighty Mac too much!) :p

I was thinking of suggesting Chippewa County!

Ok guys, I'm back from virginia and my guns are getting rusty. Its been over 3 months since my last range trip. Whos up for a trip to the lapeer state land range, or Peters in roseville? Island Lake is good too, but I'm not sure if its open right now.

Evening within the next few days? I'm thinking about 7 pm to miss traffic, and by 8 I'll be ready for Hooters wings (hooters is about a mile north of peters).
