My favorites, Remington #10s, have been like trying to find a needle in a stack of hens teeth while being strike by lightning with a winning lottery ticket in the hen’s pocket, which is impossible since hen’s don’t wear trousers.

In other words, tough to find. I don’t even know if they’re still even being produced considering Remington’s demise.

For every poster bragging about their easy time finding caps, there’s 100 of us who can check online inventories and tell something very wrong is happening. I don’t think this shortage is on track to recover. Only stuff I can find lately are popular calibers (9 mm, 12 gauge, 5.56, etc.). I don’t see companies returning to black powder supply production for a long time if ever. It could be Gunbroker and barter and trade are the only games in BP for a long time. Or maybe every blue moon you can buy the only box of caps left in store only.

You guys should read my previous posts about making #10 nipples fit #11 caps. I have yet to see # 10 caps in my area so modifications are in order.

It's to the point that I feel I may as well spend $70 on the punch and primer compound and make my own. 18 months of this and still no recovery... doubt there will be one.
This is where I bought my cap maker. When I bought mine only the #11 maker was available. It makes caps that fit my Pietta 51 navy with the factory nipples. These caps are too small for the Slix shot nipples.

I've heard those things work well! Haven't bought one yet.....but thinking seriously about it....

I have one and have made caps. It's tedious work BUT it beats not having any caps. They only fit standard Pietta/uberti nipples. They won't fit slixshot and idk about treso as I've never had nor wanted any.

Thanks for the feedback. I've never had an issue with Pietta/Uberti nipples so just leave 'em alone. I like "one size fits all"....:)

They make a #10 cap maker now, would that fit factory Pietta or Uberti nipples?
The #11 cap maker producers caps that fits my Pietta perfect! I have the factory nipples installed. I don’t own an Uberti, so I have no information.

Just snagged 4 tins of Remington #10’s at my lgs for 6.99 each. Cabelas has them but they want 12.99 each. Does this mean Remington (whoever that is now) is making them again?

The Remington ammunition division is now owned by Vista Outdoors. My guess is that if they are indeed back in production, they have a huge hole in the ammunition area to fill before they worry about components and black powder trinkets. I think we are more likely to see the major players like CCI and RWS to fill that need in the immediate future and indeed, they are starting to reappear in small bunches.

The cap maker cups have folded sides. Same as the old Forrester Tap-O Cap.. The cups made from my die fit nicely on the 10 sized nipples. They also will fit on my 11 sized nipples. You just push a little harder and they expand easily. I use two layer pop cans ,copper and brass all do this. The folded sides make this possible. I have made about five thousand cups with the cap maker.Almost all with the pop cans.Much cheaper .Sometimes free. My cap maker was mounted on a drill press and that worked well and was fast. Now it's on a reloading press. Lyle is now experienced with this and has good advice.

Cabelas now has new stock of CCI and Remington caps. Twice the old price but that’s not exactly an uncommon experience these days. Luckily I have been buying extra every so often for a few years and I don’t think I will need to buy new til next year.

Does this include Bass Pro, since they own Cabelas?

I'll be going to a bass pro in up state N.Y. Sometime this week end I'll see what the have. I checked the cci no11m I got recently, they happen to fit my h&A well,

Powder, Inc., in Clarksville AR has RWS #11 caps in stock. I bought 1 case (5,000 caps) to be delivered in November for my friends in three black powder clubs here in the Tarheel State (NC). Also coming in November is a big shipment of Schuetzen and Swiss black powder in 2FG, 3FG, & 4FG grades, which we also ordered. If you buy the 25 pound case, Schuetzen will be less than $21/lb and Swiss less than $28/lb. You can mix brands & grades in the same box to get the best price per pound, which includes the shipping and HazMat charges. Go to: www.powderinc.com . Ask for Jerry or Naomi, tell 'em, "Buck sent me".
