Rant eased because it agitated quite a few internet experts and preachers.

While I agree nobody likes or wants unsolicited email if Midway is annoying you there should be a way to filter their emails to you. All Midway USA emails reflect a From: MidwayUSA [[email protected]]. While I don't know what you are using as an email client (your email software) most allow you to easily filter or block senders. I can have any email based on sender easily moved to any folder of my choosing. That includes junk mail or deleted folder. If I wanted I could create a folder for Midway, Cabelas and others I deal with. So, if the emails persist an option is to have your email client automatically trash them. At best I only receive email from Midway every few days and only single emails.

Finally at the bottom of all Midway emails I receive there is:
We hope you found this message useful. If you'd rather not receive future Eblasts™ of this type from MidwayUSA, please opt-out.

The opt-out does work for me?

Ron

They are now telling me that my request has beenplaced in a "cue" and that they would eventually get around to respecting my desire to be eliminated from spam mailings. This does not ring true since the promotions stopped for a while.
I do not use MS Outlook express because the program is corrupt in my MS 7 operation system. Instead, I access the server directly and use an alternative e-mail provider for my routine activity. The internet provider options for handling mail do not include "Spam" or Block features but I just leaned that they do encourage forwarding persistent spam mailings to them with the implication that they will take action against the offending site.

I never mentioned MS Outlook Express or MS Outlook for that matter. I clearly stated:

While I don't know what you are using as an email client (your email software) most allow you to easily filter or block senders. I can have any email based on sender easily moved to any folder of my choosing.

Yes, based on what you mentioned your server side can block or remove emails from senders of your choosing. I can do that on my server for mine and my wife's email accounts. Hopefully they can block the sender and problem solved.

All I'm hearing is wa, wa, wa. I wish I had time to just type away complaining about getting sales notices in my email.

You apparently have the time to "type away" complaining about people complaining about sales notices, so you don't exactly have the high ground here.

Internet experts to the contrary notwithstanding, Word for Windows Does have spam folders and options for allowing rules which erase mail from marked addresses without displaying them. These, however are NOT available from the interface on my ISP. Now. I am going to erase my original whine having committed the sin provoking confrontational internet experts

I've been doing business with Midway for about 25 years now. I certainly don't consider their emails to me to be spam or harassment. In fact, I quite look forward to them.

If you've tried the opt out function, and they told you it may take awhile to get it in place, relax and let it happen. Is an extra email in your inbox for a few more days really so troubling that it required a public rant against them?

I don't know of any email provider that doesn't allow you to block messages from senders or domains. Do your part on your end if you feel you cannot wait for them.

I'm a far cry from computer savvy, yet still think deleting a dozen of their e-mails would have taken me less time than you spent posting about it.

Yep, getting unwanted e-mails is just part of the "price of progression."
(Kinda stole that from a Toll album name from 25 years ago.)

While I agree that the amount of energy spent on the thread is more than that of deleting emails, unwanted messaging is unwanted messaging, and can interfere with checking your email for more important messages.

I signed up with Midway all of 2 days ago and have already received 3 emails that were unrelated to my order. If it wasn't for gmail's ability to seprated those messages into the "promotions" category, I might have been the one making a thread about it.

Honestly, on an individual level it's really not a big deal. However, at the end of the day we are customers and they are a business. Their job is to provide what the customer demands, and the fact that people have issues with receiving unwanted mail is an indication of poor choices on their part. One can talk about how little it matters all they want, but Midway's job is to meet the demands of the customer base, not to make sure that they are being only -slightly- irritating.

It's the customer/business thing you so aptly point out that set me off. I had been a midway customer for many years and recently had to move to a new e-mail address. I specified no advertising and, when that failed, tried to use the opt out on each advertisement. When that didn't work, I contacted them by their internet contact protocol -they don't provide a e-mail address for initial contact- and asked to have my date removed. This seemed to work - for a while.

Almost every online provider I purchase from has a box in the order progression that asks if you wish to receive future offers by email. Depending upon the company most of them are readily evident. The box is always checked by default, and I always uncheck it, if you didn't uncheck it then it is shared blame but as has been pointed out, you can opt out of future emails by a simple unsubscribe. Take the time to read the fine print as it is always beneficial to your emotional well being if you are the sensitive type.......

I am a long time Midway customer and I don't get email from them . You must have done something wrong when you signed up .

The OP deleted his original post, and GGD really isn't the place for rating retailers.

Stuff happens, hopefully they'll make it right. :)
