Asking for a friend. What's a mild, moderate .45 load for him to use for edc in a small .45?

Absolutely no need to go +P in this situation, so he says. In fact he prefers staying on the mild side, something about his age or some such thing.

Winchester SilverTip. Years ago I carried them in a Star PD and I have a Sig C 3 loaded with them now. Mild 185 gr. load.

What Hannsty is saying ... Winchester Silvertip , 185 gr. JHP
Good Load not excessive ... I keep them in both my 45 AMT Hardballer and Taurus - 455 45 acp revolver ... Most excellant Choice !

Will this be shot from a revolver or auto?

In an auto, it doesn't pay to go mild, because it won't cycle the slide. Going with lighter bullets at higher velocity makes it milder to shoot and will still cycle the slide. Federal used to make a 185 gr. HydraShock that was pretty mild and very effective in ballistic gel tests. Lighter bullets will tend not to shoot to factory fixed elevation sights though; they shoot low, since most 45s are regulated to shoot to the sights with a 230 gr. round.

In a revolver, you can make them pretty mild INDEED and also shoot full- and semi-wadcutters.

If he wants milder for age-related issues, it's probably best to start looking at a 9 mm pistol or even a 38 Spl revolver. There are a lot of soft-shooting nines out there. Let us know what he ends up with!

The 185 gr. Winchester Silvertip ammo feeds , fires and cycles in my un-modified 1911 AMT Hardballer ... If your weapon is a semi-auto you must test fire them but they should work as that was the market the ammo was engineered for .
Recoil is much less than 230 gr. ... in my 70 year old hands anyway
