MIM Free 1911A1?

Hey everyone. The search function doesn't seem to be working well for me tonight so I thought I would throw this one out there.
I am looking to pick up a fairly basic 1911A1. All I really am interested in for features is the lowered ejection port and "modern" feed ramp. I'll figure out what I want for sights and install them later. However, most important is realiablity, and to that end I am looking for a all steel gun......no MIM parts. Is anyone making them anymore or would this be in the realm of semi-custom?

Also Rock River in 1911 design is all forged or barstock... you're not going to find anything in the lower tier of prices w/o MIM which, IMNSHO, is not an issue. MIM done well is fine just as forged or cast done poorly is not.

You should consider the Springfield Armory Mil-Spec. It'll start you out with the flared ejection port, polished feed ramp and also gives you a "basic" set of sights that you can actually use, while the original GI-style low sights are truly awful. This makes a great foundation for any future customization you may wish to add.

If any MIM breaks, buy some Ed Brown, Wilson, Cylinder & Slide, etc. parts to replace them, if any breaks.

Is the Nighthawk not a cast receiver by Caspian? I read in one of the gun magazines that it is. I want only forged steel receivers/slides.

Well of course you could buy an original Colt Government Model or USGI 1911A1 made before 1960...

Forged steel frame, barrel and slide - as well as some lockwork. No MIM parts. Excluding the stocks, all parts were made out of heat-treated/high carbon steel. Oh, and they were dimensioned to USGI blueprints.

These were the guns that made the 1911's reputation. No gimmics, no gadgets, no special magazines, no breaking in, and reliable out-of-the-box.

Question: While you were doing your research, how may posts did you find that complained about how someone's older .45 wouldn't function?

Thats the idea. One solid gun without the frills. And not so tight that it needs 500 rounds fired to get it to work in right. Any other ideas?

You could also search for an unmolested older SA pistol. All those parts were forged.

You could buy a Colt and replace the sear, disconnector and mag catch and be MIM free I believe.

That's "basic".

Can you tell the difference from just looking at the part? How would a regular guy spot MIM parts?
