I would like to put a compact scope on my mini30, however it appears that if I put a rail on it, I won't be able to get the bolt out. Is this true? Does anyone know what king of high profile scope rings would work, where they would attach directly to the receiver, but yet me use the iron sights? I'm very ignorant with with this rifle. I just purchased it and have much to learn. It is a Ranch rifle.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

The trouble you run into with rings high enough to still use sights is the the scope will be far too high to get a stock/cheek weld. Ruger rings a pricy too but that is another subject.

What kind of shooting? I put a Nikon p-223 3-9 on mine and completely dig it.

Ruger rings come off in seconds with a screwdriver if you need to use iron sights in an emergency or if you need to disassemble your rifle. They go back on in seconds and will maintain zero just as well as quick detachable mounts. I keep a multi-tool handy all the time.

I'd use a small 1-4X20 scope in the Ruger rings. You'll need to attach a picatinney rail if you want to use most dot sights. I wouldn't do it on a Ruger. They just aren't designed for this and any attempt to do so is undesireable in my experience.

I wouldn't worry about needing backup irons. I've had more iron sights fail than quality scopes. Buy a decent scope and don't worry about it. Optics work better in any situation than irons anyway. Even up close and fast as long as you don't have too much magnification. At 1X you will shoot as fast and more accurately than with irons or a dot, and at 4X have more magnification than you can use with a 7.62X39 round.
