My quest to make the smallest J-Frame that would be practical for me was finished today with new Zebrawood grips and refinishing. 1-3/4" barrel, bobbed hammer with a serrated top (should I desire to thumb-cock it,) The grip-frame is shortened, trigger -face polished smooth, red-dot front sight, and the sides of the trigger-guard are relieved at the front to allow better access to the trigger.

With standard-pressure loads it's pretty easy to hang onto and not uncomfortable to shoot. Now that it has a front sight I'll see how accurate it is, and how manageable in rapid-fire. The grip is better to hold than it looks; my ring finger curls around it from underneath so it's actually pretty secure.

Yes, it could be smaller but that would sacrifice function for me; I'm not really comfortable with a carry-gun unless I can make a 'hostage shot' at 7 yards. It's an arbitrary standard and maybe unrealistic, but it works for me.

I only see 1 more thing to change, and that may not be feasible. Could you contour that horn at the front of the frame just in front of the trigger guard so that it’s not so square? It’s a small feature and it’s not really a big deal, but that’s the only squared part of the whole gun. Seems to stick out more now that the rest of the gun is minimized.

It's funny, but I was actually thinking about that very thing, and I don't see any reason why it cannot be rounded, at least a bit. I may do that when I get back into the shop tomorrow.

Goodness, what a discreet carry piece. I like it.

(Pondering how difficult it might be to do the same with an old Taurus...)
