You know what's more dangerous than an idiot with a gun? An idiot with a gun and ammo.

This is the kind of BS that the anti-gunners use against us. These people are Darwin Awards waiting to be awarded.

Seriously. They might still be taking Joey B's advice about going out on the balcony and firing a couple shots with the double barrel shotgun. lol

I have fired a warning shot or two in my life. Straight into the ground ten feet in front of me. Seems to me that's the only safe way to do it.

"People" believe all sorts of fanciful things, all too typically learned on television.
This ought to be common knowledge among gun-owners, but, sadly, is not.

Those of us who do know need to remember to point these things out when asked (pointing things out, unasked, can meet with reflexive resistance).

It is not safe at all. Has been discussed here at length.

It is a small rural town in a rural area. Probably a fair amount of wolves and bear around there. And probably per capita plenty of gun owners. And a high population of middle East or African transplants that have caused a crime wave in St Cloud that is maybe 20-30 miles away. I don't know too much about it but I can see it would be concerning.

Your comment was deleted because it violated the rule about political commentary. You've been at THR long enough to know better.

Amazing how the confidence of statements about firearms seems always inversely proportional to the person's knowledge. I was once invited to dinner by a family where I had previously only known the wife and little daughter. The husband actually opened a rather political topic of conversation during which he confidently declared that a person should fire a warning shot. He didn't believe me when I told him that is illegal. At another point in the conversation he said something about how many bullets do you need if your house is broken into (implying that nobody needs a "high capacity" magazine), to which I replied "How many people broke in?", which his face immediately made clear he had never thought about.

    That wasn't a warning shot, I missed.

I think that that is frequently the case, but the defender is afraid to admit that they just tried to shoot another human being for fear of persecution and/or prosecution (no matter how justified they feel it was.) So, they claim to have "tried to scare 'em off."

I only fire warning shots as I am running away from a threat traveling up or straight down the middle of the road. All things you see in movies that would be stupid in real life (not an inclusive list) :)

From reading news stories I would have thought there is much more danger from idiots firing cheerfully at new years than the number of warning shots fired.

I am at a loss on “warning shots”, if your life was not in imminent danger, what are you doing escalating the situation and opening yourself up to liability?

I won't say what should or shouldn't be done, only that what folks are able to do are highly dependent on local.

Folks that want to argue that are obviously of a particular local, different of other folks.

Have I made that blandly PC enough....

Not only is it unsafe, it is also illegal and irresponsible.

If no one was present as a threat it wasn't a warning shot, it was an intentional discharge. One should expect the arrival of the police and the required explanation.

My gun comes out of my holster only if a life is in danger, if that's the case a warning shot is not necessary.
I will shoot until the threat is stopped. (Notice I didn't say killed, because I'm a protector not a killer)

My entire back yard is a live shooting range, and I do quite often use it at night. Not kidding.
