MN 91/30 stock cracks.. what to do?

Upon taking a close look at one of my MNs, I noticed a problem - the wood between the trigger cut and the magazine cut, and the wood between the mag and recoil lug is cracked through and through. I've not ever fired this rifle, and if it can be repaired cheaply I'd rather do that than have to replace the stock.

Ideas?

It happens from time to time. In rearsenaled ones you can see a bolt there that prevents it. The M-39 Finns are notorious for cracking as well. I've fixed them before with gorilla glue and that worked great, but it does leave some foamy residue. Ideally you should sink a thin brass rod through to tie the split together and epoxy it.

The good news is, replacement 91/30 stocks are easy to find and quite cheap. Google and you'll find some. Numrich usually has them in stock.

What about JB weld or similar?


As for a replacement stock, I may or may not go that route.

Cosmo, another question you'd probably know the answer to... for various models, how did they attach the rear sight base? Is there a way to remove it short of grinding/milling it off?

It varies from model to model. If you have a pic of the one in question it would help. But why do you want to remove it?
