A man says he didn't know the married couple who attacked him.

THORNFIELD, Mo. -- A man told Ozark County sheriff's deputies that
he shot and killed a couple who came to his home on Sunday night. The
shooting victims are Merl Cantwell, 40, and Tammy Cantwell, 32, who
    lived near Isabella.
The man lives just south of Thornfield on Missouri 95. The
sheriff's department says someone called about a fight at the home about
10 p.m. Sunday. Deputies arrived a half hour later and found the
bodies of the husband and wife near the front porch.
The homeowner told deputies that he asked his wife gave him a gun
after Merl Cantwell, whom he didn't know, attacked him when he opened
his front door. Then Tammy Cantwell joined the attack, he
reported. He says he shot the couple in self-defense.
The sheriff's department continues to investigate the shootings.
No charges were filed by Monday afternoon.
