    Hello All,

I was in the LGS yesterday and I see what appears to be a used 586.

Taking a closer look it is a Mod 586 (no dash) with a pretty decent DA trigger. It wasn't cleaned the last time the guy shot it, but it doesn't appear to have been shot much.

    Price was $375.

There is some (minor) rust spots and I shone a light on them and took pics (see below).

What does the hive think? Good deal? Pass?

Yeah I would definitely go for it! Can't go wrong (well at least I hope not), at a price of $375 for any vintage S&W .357!

And a little bit of Flitz Polish will take care of those minor rust spots!

$375 in California is like $175 in the Free States. It even at $375 Free State pricing I would buy it.

Go for it!. I paid more for mine, and it was shot a lot more than that one.

This is the only blackened S&W M686 I have ever seen. Wish it was for sale:

A decent 586 around here will be at the LGS for anywhere from $550 to $750 with 686's even higher.

Even subtracting for the grips and slight rust its a winner.

oh man you guys are a good time.

I just need to make contact with the wife (that's the rule). She is usually in the "it's a good deal? go for it" camp.

Its a rule that has allowed me to continue buying more guns lol

I would buy it for $375. Rub the rust spots lightly with pre 1982 penny and watch them disappear.

Do a function check first hammer push off , trigger, etc , side plate screws look ok. Midway USA and others have videos for checking used revolvers. If ok I would offer $350.

Some of those spots are going to be hard to reach with a penny. I would go oiled 0000 steel wool, followed by chrome polish on a Dremel with a buffing wheel at low speed. Should turn out great either way! :D

Ignore the rusty spots, just clean and oil that up and go shooting, in CA is it still a 10 day wait?
