I just got a debit card with my $1400 stimulus payment. The first $700 is headed to the 2nd Amendment Foundation, to help make sure I can keep my guns, but the rest will get me started with suppressors.
I'm going to start with one so I want to be able to use it on several weapons, including .22. Like any compromise that will mean it isn't as good as a dedicated piece, but for now that makes sense to me.
If I could wave a magic wand I would get a multi length modular suppressor that could be used on 9mm and .22. I would start with a threaded barrel for an Argentine Browning Hi-Power clone and threading the barrel of an old Ruger 22/45 to match. After that I would either thread or get a new barrel for a 10/22 rifle and get a threaded barrel for a Sig P365.
I could use the shorter length of the suppressor for the .22s and go to full length for the BHP. It will need to be user dissasemblable for cleaning.
The SIG is the most likely to be a problem, but I would like to give it a try.

I'm sure many of you would tell me that I would be better off with several suppressors, which is true, but for now I'm more interested in suggestions for those which would come closest to my current ideas.

Any user servicible 9mm can with stainless baffles like the silencerco octane, the griffin revolution, rugged obsidian etc should work. You will need some sort of fixed barrel adapter or spacer for anything not tilt barrel handgun.
You will be aiming through the can with the 9mms and especially with the 22.

Everybody tries to make 1 can do multiple things with their first can, but it never works out quite like they hope. Eventually you wind up with 3+. A 22 can, a pistol can, and a rifle can.

I wish I had just gone ahead and paid for a couple cans long before I did. They're fantastic, and I love shooting suppressed. Suppressed subsonic that is. I'm not impressed with supersonic 9mm suppression. It's expensive bulky and messy for something that you still have to wear your ears for when you shoot. Subsonic 22, subsonic 9 mm, subsonic pistol and a carbine, all that is fantastic. Super sonic rifle suppressed is also fantastic.

But knowing what I know now, a 9 mm handgun that I was going to shoot factory supersonic ammo through would be the last thing I suppressed. I would start with 22, then a 30 caliber rifle can.

But that's just me. My opinion and a dollar+tax will allow you do order off the 99 cent menu at taco bell.

Edit: you can also look at the Griffin optimus and the Liberty mystic. They are multi caliber and 9 mm cans that will run 22 long rifle 223, 308, etc. I bought a mystic as my second can, and while I like it, it does not come apart for cleaning as well as some of the cans I mentioned early in my post and adapters get expensive very fast

I just made my rimfire cans. Fast and easy. Nearly a monkey could do it. Even me!:)
Boosters, Neilson devices and mounts, well, that’s better factory made. But rimfire suppressors are fun!

147 grain 9MM is usually subsonic. So an easy change of ammunition keeps things quiet.
(Well, an easy swap In The Before.)

For seven hundred I would file for a Form 1, and buy a rimfire kit. Keep saving for the nine. You will so much enjoy the little can it will make waiting for the big one easier.
And it will come to fruition much faster!:)

But, I have heard that smaller calibers still sound okay through a bigger can. I think when I started looking for pistol cans it got expensive quick.
As none of my barrels were threaded that was included in the cost.
So find a 9mm can you like, get an adapter for the 10/22 and run it without the booster. That will be the same as any and may even work well.

Anything you fire a 22LR through you want to be able to take it apart and clean it.
Also any typical 9mm silencer isn't going to be nearly as quiet as even a cheap $40 form 1 22LR silencer.
For me it's 22LR for 22LR, they are small, light and very quiet.

Also a typical 22LR silencer is about 1 inch in diameter, can weigh as little as 2.5 to 4 ounces. A typical 9mm silencer is 1.5 inches wide, will weigh at least 6oz and will block the sights on nearly all 22lr rifles and pistols.

Lots of interesting advice. I see that the Mystic has been replaced by the Mystic X. The Optimus looks good but is pretty spendy. I'm mainly a pistol shooter so don't need one built for rifle, at least not yet.

The Gemtech Lunar 9 is attractive because it comes apart for cleaning and allows you to use longer or shorter versions.

I hadn't considered the idea of making my own .22 suppressor on a Form 1, but shortly after I posted this a friend sent me some pictures of a kit he plans to build for a .45. I'll have to look into that. Recommend sources for parts?

We are not allowed to talk about that kind of stuff on here.
Where to source parts? Why? Did we forget the secret handshake?:)

I asked the same question, but about rimfire cans. I got a good list and ordered from one of them. They came as expected and finished easily. It can be found here, https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...le-manufacturers-of-solvent-trap-kits.881783/.
But after checking them, all:(, there isn’t any parts available for a centerfire. They must be highly desirable right now...;)

XRT Tactical has some very nice one inch models, my new favorite. Much shinier than the titanium ones.

But inventory changes all the time, @MoscowMike. Check back often.

This has me chasing down another rabbit hole, but could be fun. A couple of people recommended diversified machine, but I see they are in trouble with the ATF, so not an option at this point.

Thanks for the link to the other thread. Now I just need to get with my lawyer to settle the gun trust. Looks like I can apply for the Form 1 while I'm deciding on a kit.

Who told you that?

XRT is definitely one of the best options for Form 1 rimfire builds at this time. The parts are well made and fairly inexpensive with lots of options for configuration.

I have some bits coming from them so I have a pattern to make custom adapters with their goofball M27x1 left hand threads. I was recently was commissioned for a pair of titanium Griffin taper adapters for the XRTs and had to have the cans sent in for fitment, decided it best to just have the pattern on hand.

I just noticed that all but one of the solvent trap posts were locked.
I haven't gone through every post on every one of them, no one appears to be doing anything illegal unless intending to comply with the law is breaking the law.
And I noticed there is this one guy, must have a really bad case of buyers remorse is always hating on solvent traps.

I have a lathe so potentially anything is a silencer to me.
