More guns when you are single or married?

I just wanted to find out really quickly; did you buy more guns when you were single, or married?

Reading things from people like Cslinger, you find out, the wife seems to encourage the purchases..

But then again, a few posts suggest that the wife might be anti..

"Honey, I bought 2 shotguns, you bought a pair of Bally's high heels.. You have a pair of pumps, I have a pair of pumps, that's fair right??"

The thread will likely come out in favor of us married guys. It MUCH easier to buy guns when I was single. But I have been Married MUCH longer (or it feels that way).

Definitely after marriage.

My mother doesn't like guns, and my dad doesn't really care ("I fired plenty of them in Vietnam, don't have any desire to play with them anymore.") so I never had any growing up.

In the early married years I didn't have the spare $$ to indulge myself. Now that the income is up I have taken care of that. 2 revolvers, 2 semi's, 1 levergun, 1 shotgun and another revolver on layaway. Oh, and the "build an AR15" project.

Well, I've only been married 3 yrs and in that time, I've purchased 3 guns. I purchased more before being married but not as frequently as now. 2 or 3 a yr but thier no longer the $200 -$300 ones. two incomes makes it a bit easier. Just don't ell the wife I'm still buying them though

Bought my first gun as soon as I moved out of my parent's home. That was the only one purchased while single. Never was into hunting and just developed more of an interest over the last few years.

Although I have bought more while married, I don't really think my actual marital status had much to do with when my guns were purchased.

I'm on my second marriage. Before and during the first I indulged in my High Power hobby and began acquiring Swedish Mausers. Sold most of those same P-35's to assist financing the divorce (which was not related to MY spending habits). Since then I've been more judicious about acquisitions; Nice Garand, high quality milsurps, and the like. I suppose I could call it maturity (well, it's a stretch) but I tend to plan out purchases and be much more selective rather than impulsive when I find something, although I do find I've got the disposable income to do a few unconventional spot purchases, especially when my new wife is along and she sees a nice firearm she likes .

She has the best taste in guns.

i come home with a new handgun, the woman takes it from me cause she likes it. she has absconded some i had years before she was born. yep, old coot, young bride, but, 23+ years now.

every guy needs a gun loving woman - maybe.

When I was single...

..all I had was a .22 Colt. The day before we married, I purchased a .38 S&W for $98.00 NIB. It was a stretch too.
I used to look at my sleeping wife in that crummy, hot, little apartment 'till I thought~~I'M GOING TO MAKE SOME MONEY AND GET HER A HOUSE AND ANYTHING ELSE SHE WANTS. Sorry for yelling, but that's how it happened. And that's how it DID happen! I retired at 48. (I'm 53 now.) I do "volunteer" flying now.
My wife goes to the gun shop without me now. She points and says, "I want that one", and fills out the paper and walks out of the store with her new firearm (sometimes it's for ME! ) without paying a DIME. I told our guy, "When she comes in, give her anything she wants and I'll pay for it the next time I'm in". He does exactly that. He knows I'm good for it. (NOW)

Sheesh--sometimes you give out deep secrets without meaning to. Sorry guy's. I've been talking to a very good friend who has cancer. He/she's even a member of this very Forum. However, you don't know who it is. He/she's (no clues) asked me not to "let on" about it, but it doesn't stop me from being mad and pissed.

Never really thought about it before. I've been married twice, with a seventeen year gap between wives. When I was younger I bought more guns, as there were more I wanted for my collection. However, when I was married the first time, I didn't have much disposable income so didn't buy many.

Purchased a fair number in that seventeen year period because as my earning power increased, I could afford to.

I'll celebrate my seventh anniversary soon, and have picked up a fair number in the last seven years as well.

In the final analysis, I don't think my marital status has ever mattered. Neither wife has had an issue with my gun purchases. In my case, I think it boiled down to economics and what I wanted to buy. At this point I've got examples of most of what I wanted, so my purchases have slowed down to almost nothing.

My gun buying isn't affected by marital status, but by economics. When I was single, I was a student who sometimes had to choose between paying tuition/buying books and proper meals. After graduating I was working to pay off student loans. Gun buying, even gun magazine buying (pre-internet), was an unattainable luxury.

I was just getting by before we were married, I was the only person making money since she was in school finishing her Masters. When she finished school we got married.

In the 3 years we've been married I've bought 9 handguns and 8 rifles/shotguns. ( Not that she knows about most of them) But I think that's just a by-product of my higher income and the fact we have 2 incomes

while I was single ,the only time I used a firearm was deer and elk season,had a marlin 336 to fill the tags-now that I have a wife and two kids I need a "hobby" to get me out of the house and preserve what ever sanity is left-so wifes lets me buy guns to keep me happy!

Since I've been married almost twice as long as I wasn't married, obviously, I've bought LOTS more guns since I've been married.

As the "happy old sailor" said, "every guy needs a gun loving woman...". I don't think my bride would describe herself as "gun loving", but she's at least gun-tolerant . She shoots a little, but guns and shooting are not her bag , so to speak. At least she's strong RKBA. I'll settle for that.

My wife is "gun tolerant" but she's not "spend money" tolerant (especialy if the money is spent on stuff that is just for me and not for "us" ... and somehow her shoes and clothes are for us )

Zundfolge, I feel your pain Bro. Fortunately, it took my wife about 13 years to get that way, which allowed me time to accumulate some trading stock. Now I can come up with the occasional "undocumented" $100 or so to sweeten a trade. I may be some dumb, but I ain't plumb dumb.

My wife was always great in indulging me in a new toy.

She made me buy an M1 Garand, I ran across, after I was laid off from work.

Every time I buy a gun my wife buys one also and vice versa. We refer to it as retalitatory purchases.

Many more since I got married, but then I've been married for 27+ years. There's also the increased income factor - before I got married I was a young deputy at the bottom of the income scale. Most importantly, my wife not only doesn't object/mind my purchase of firearms, she is a shooter herself. I've purchased two new Kimbers for her in the last 6 months and she put the new Kimber 22 rimfire on layaway as soon as she saw it. I'm a very lucky guy!
