I created some test loads using Sport Pistol and 9mm RMR bullets and tested them today, specifically, the RMR 124 gr JHP (MPR) bullets and RMR 147 FP (Match Winners).

I loaded the 124 gr. JHP to a COAL of 1.08", and the 147 gr. FP to 1.10".

All rounds were shot out my SIG P320 X5 Pistol with a Bar-Sto match barrel.

I was aiming to beat the 125 Power Factor requirement for USPSA, and I normally like to shoot for the 130 to 133 PF to give me some buffer.

Comments in general:

-The powder metered well. All loads were dropped from my Dillon powder drop for these tests.
-All chrony data came from my Labradar.
-There were a few times where I noticed more smoke than I am used to seeing, but I should have paid more attention to this to see if this was a pattern I needed to watch for.
-The gun was surprising clean after testing, and I ran a lot of loads.
-I personally felt the recoil response was smoother than my normal Titegroup loads, but that could have been my imagination.
-The accuracy was VERY good throughout the load range.

I was really impressed with this powder and its performance in my gun today, and I love the way it meters from my Dillon drop.

I ran several loads in each bullet weight, but I am only going to show the ones that have promise and meet my PF criteria.

124 gr loads: Both of these 2 loads met my PF criteria, but the 4.3 gr loads were more accurate. Actually, they were the best loads that I tested all day from an accuracy perspective.

I am totally in love with this powder! I have been using Titegroup as my go-to 9mm powder for a long time. I just have not found anything I like better than TG until now, including BE-86 which seems to be a THR favorite.

I am definitely going to be making a few larger batches of the 124 gr. with 4.3 gr of SP even though it was on the higher end of the PF target, it was just do darned accurate in my pistol. And then a few larger batches of the 147 gr with 3.6 gr of SP. The 147 gr have a softer overall feel compared to the 124's so I am leaning towards the 147's as my competition load.

Overall, a really good day with Sport Pistol. Highly recommended.

Me too.

This is very close to my match load. I use the RMR 147 FPMW with 3.5gr ASP and COL of 1.120. It makes 130PF and I normally would like 132, but the ES and SD numbers are so low even with mixed cases that I'm comfortable with 130. That's out of a Sig P226.
I also load the 124 FPMW but again to a 1.120 COL.
I have a couple of guns that don't like the flat points so I've tried RMR's RN's as well with ASP and it's very nice as well. It's just a good with coated bullets I've found.

Well, I made 500 each of the 124 gr and 147 gr RMR Sport Pistol Loads, and spent some time going back and forth between them, and even brought some of my 124 gr RMR Titegroup loads to compare.

The 147's are totally AMAZING in my gun for competition. Soft, accurate with quicker follow ups. Switching to the 124 gr *definitely* shows a perceived felt recoil increase. It is not subtle, it is 100% there and quite noticeable.

When doing speed drills with multiple steel targets, not only were the 147 gr loads consistently faster (100% of the time), but I have less misses on target when shooting fast.

For absolute bullseye accuracy, slow single-shots, the 124 gr proved to be slightly more accurate, but for my competition loads, the 147 gr are the winners hands-down. I ordered 3,000 more from RMR about 1.5 weeks ago, and then another 3,000 this morning. I think I am going to be standardizing on these guys for a while. I love them.

When comparing the 124 gr loads between Sport Pistol and Titegroup, the TG loads were definitely more "spanky", and the SP loads were softer for sure. Both of these loads are hitting about 132-133 Power Factor, and the SP loads are much more pleasant to shoot, and work well with these RMR 124 gr JHP MPR rounds that Jake sells.

Anybody want to buy some Titegroup??? (Just kidding by the way, in case anyone thinks I am serious.)

I have been told by some people here that it is beyond the ability of a human to feel the difference between powders with the same bullet at the same vel.
I say horse pucky.
I can feel the difference between say WSF with a 124 at 1030fps and the same load of a faster power at the same vel.
The faster powder should have less recoil because of the smaller charge but to me the WSF load feels softer.
The faster powder has to have less recoil -- Physics, but to me the other just feels softer(better)

Glad you are liking SP!

IMHO Sport Pistol is THE powder for 9mm. I loaded 600 rounds of 9mm yesterday. 300 with the MP 130 gr HP and 300 with the NOE 128 gr RN. I used 3.4 gr Sport Pistol under both. The hollow points shot very well in my match today. Shooting them through the S&W 5906 was a dream. Hardly any recoil at all.

There's a group buy at Cast Boolits on a MP mold that's a copy of the RCBS 147 gr 9mm bullet. Just waiting for two more people to sign up. That's a bullet I can't wait to get.

DoubleHelix,
what charge with the 147s for 130PF in your gun?

Edit..
Opps getting bling in my old age:eek::oops:
Posted above at the top.
(that part scrolls off the top of my screen....)

I am really liking this load. These are the RMR FP "Match Winners", and they are shooting so well out of my SIG P320 X5, it is just not fair!!! I feel sorry for those suckers that have to compete against me now!!!

Decided I needed to give these 147 gr FN a try also so punched up an RMR order this morning. Beautiful weather here this morning and looks like more for tomorrow. So, off to the range tomorrow to finally get some testing in with WSF and Sport Pistol loads.

Thanks to Dudedog for pointing me at Doublehelix's thread.
