I see that SOG is selling Mosin 91/30 snipers for $339.95. This includes the PU 3.5 scope.

I have been looking for a Sniper rifle for awhile, so i intrested in them.

Are these Actual WWII sniper's or just made to look like them?

The poop on these is that some folks in Ukraine are using modern made scopes made in the original optics factory and mating them to reconditioned 91/30 rifles. So they are replicas and not originals. Lots of info over at Gunboards. Most seem to think they are a good value as long as you are paying under $400 and know what you are getting.

i am down with ron. Although you can find origionals, from time to time, that are invery good shape, saw no action, stayed wrapped up , that sort of thing, i would get one of those at any price. the ones with the pe scopes are a little better, but still the pu's for under 500 are a fair deal, it will be a fine shooter, should you decide to get it.

These are just your standard 91/30s though right? Not hand selected from the factory, special condition, best barrels, etc, like the real Mosin snipers were.

IIRC, those were supposed to have special markings on the receivers to ID them.

Depends. The Soviets had a LOT of sniper rifles after the war, and while some had the mount holes filled in, many did not. Some of these are actual selected snipers- still have the high left receiver wall and so forth- with new optics added. Or reconditioned period optics different than the one that originally was used on it.

Got one from Interordnance a while back. The rifle was 1943, scope marked 1942. Shoots very well.

If there is a genuine sniper at IO, it is coincidental. Most of them are standard infantry rifles converted to sniper configs. The stocks are newly cut, the bolt handles welded on, and the scopes and mounts are newly made. The easiest way to tell a fake scope is to look both at the screw heads (real are round-topped, fakes are flat topped) and the serial number. If the serial number has a 4 looking character before the numbers, it is a fake. If there is no scope serial number along the left side barrel shank (or if there is no sign of that number being buffed off), it is a fake.

Most of these rifles coming in are too old to be correct PU snipers. A real PU has a round, high-wall reciever made 1942-1944. There are correct PU's made later, but very rare, including the exceedingly rare 1941 snipers. If it is earlier than 1942, it is a fake. If it is hex-reciever, it is a fake. And ALL of the PE snipers they have, ALL OF THEM, are fakes.

As a general rule of thumb, all of the snipers at any of the distributors are fake, EXCEPT for the Samco scopeless snipers, which came out of Yugoslavia and are real deal PU snipers lacking their scopes and mounts (but correct stocks, numbers, and bolt handles) and the restored snipers at Military Gun Supply. Those are real deal PU snipers that were converted back to infantry rifles by the Soviets. MGS is restoring them to original configeration and are including REAL WWII Soviet PU scopes and mounts (but not an original base). They are real snipers with real parts but are what they call "restored". If it comes from Aim, SOG, IO, or Century, or if it happens to be less than $600, it is almost certainly a fake (you would win the lottery before you get a real PU from SOG.)

At least if I pick one up, the ad says there is a money back guarantee.

whats the original scope system for it and can i put the scope on an m44 mosin nagant

As the other members have said, they are clones using original infantry Mosins that have been drilled and tapped to take a reproduction mount and scope.

The clones are good for those who want the looks of a real sniper, but can't afford the cost.

Now If you want a real Mosin sniper, go look at RGuns, they have the real snipers with original scopes/mounts for $800+

Some may not have reproduction scopes. Mine had an original scope made in 1948, but the mount and base plate were reproduction made of aluminum. The aluminum is crap, since the base plate snapped right where the thumb screw makes contact. I'm gonna get a post war steel mount. So till then, my sniper is out of commission.

I bought one of these from IO. I am very happy with it. The bore looks new, and the rifle shoots quite well. The base and mount are of steel, but the scope is newly manufactured, with a 1943 date on it. The rifle is Izhevsk with a barrel date of 1943. It is really tight, and shoots quite well.

The mount has an electropenciled rifle serial number on it.

I'd get another. It is a pretty inexpensive hunting rifle. I almost got a coyote on the run with mine a few months back at 440 yards. Just fell behind him... he left the country right away after that.

A little off subject, but I got my first Mosin, a bubba'd up Tula that just happens to be an ex-sniper. Even with the rusty bore it shoots 1.5MOA if I do my part, and my goal is to tune it to 1MOA.
