I bought this carbine about a year ago for wild hogs and deer within Florida. So far, it has proven to be ideal for me. 170 grain Power Points shoot into consistent 2 inch groups at 100 yards. These rapid expanding bullets hit hard and provide 100% penetration on broadside shots. The grey laminated stock is impervious to our sudden downpours during the rainy season and it's Marine-coat finish does not rust. I really like this short 16 inch barrel as this makes for a featherweight outfit.

I feel that Mossberg's model is superior to the current crop of Marlins built by Remington.

30-30 is a keeper!

I've only seen a few of those around here, mostly on tables at gun shows but I've heard good things about them. Thanks for posting some of your impressions. I guess Mossberg 464's must be pretty nice based on what I've been hearing. It's always nice to hear from owners.

I nearly bought a 464 a few months ago, until I came across a minty 94ae with the tang safety at a ridiculous low price. But every time I've handled a 464, I prefered it to any Marlin I've ever handled. Mossberg got it right - combining the light weight and easy handling of the 94 with the receiver mods from the Marlin. I really like the design.

Thats a really nice looking rifle, glad to hear it performs and shoots as well.

Ive never seen a mossberg lever gun except online, but i am still intrigued by their version with rails and a collapsible stock.

Mossberg is going to have a hard time in the lever gun arena, as many think of only Winchester, Marlin and Browning for levers. That's not saying they are bad, it just means they don't have nostalgia on their side. Yours looks like a great gun, with features that improve on old designs. As a Winchester fan, I'll have to check out one of those Mossberg's as I've wanted to add a durable finish lever someday and don't trust the new Remlins enough to spend money on their stainless laminate offerings.

I handled a few of the Mossberg levers when I was working retail, one of which was the 464 with adjustable stock and rail. I wasn’t very impressed by how it felt, the plastic felt cheap and the stock rattled quite a bit. This particular sample also had a “zombie” theme from the factory that included green logos not the side of the receiver. For reference, I like to compare most polymer products to Magpul, as I believe they make some of the best.

However, I did really like the fiber optic sights, they did a great job of contrasting each other. I also didn’t mind the addition of the flash hider, I personally think it adds enough protection to the muzzle to warrant the departure from lever tradition. The stock could also be replaced with a version that allowed the slop to be taken out and the forend may also be replaceable. I know Midwest Industries makes MLOK handguard for a few Marlin and Henry lever guns. Keep in mind, I’ve only handled the rifle, never fired it.

I'm continually tempted by these, allows me to scratch that cowboy itch at a much cheaper price and fewer QC issues than other offerings. Two things hold me back: 1. Until now I didn't know they had an all weather version plus I'd like one in 357 and 2. I hear the same bad reviews. Oddly the reviews from actual owners always seem to much more positive than those from review guys.

I bought the wood version of the Mossberg 464 in 30-30. I like being able to put a scope on it even though it is top eject (it throws the brass off at an angle so it does not hit the scope mounts). I did remove the rear buckhorn site, I hate it.
I need to smooth the loading gate, it's sharp and bites. I'm taking it deer hunting this season in WA and feral hog hunting in Texas.

I got mine about 8 years ago. I don't get to shoot it much but I am very happy with it.
